Travel reviews are my favorite things to share on Google Maps, because I love to travel and I want to help others improve their travel experiences by sharing my opinion of what places are good and what places should be avoided. Sometimes my reviews serve another important purpose: notifying the management of a hotel or restaurant about improvements needed at their establishment, or to give accolades for things well done.
Other reasons are less altruistic. I have a joy and an enthusiasm for travel, and I truly appreciate that I have the free time and the money to travel, so writing the reviews is a labor of love and a personal extension of a traveling lifestyle. It is also lots of fun to go back and review my reviews! It brings back good memories and sometimes helps me recall facts about a prior trip. Another reason: I enjoy writing and now as a retiree, I no longer write as part of my employment, so Google Map reviews are a good outlet for writing. In my former career as a city planner I wrote about geography, transportation, design, architecture and population characteristics, and in my Google Maps travel reviews I can write about the same kinds of things, using a planner’s insights to give travel tips.
Most of my trips involve air travel on major airlines, so when I am sitting around at home, like now, I really have an itch … to fly! Let’s go!
