What has COVID-19 wreaked upon us? Its Animal Farm but just not how George Orwell reimagined it!

Going for a run Sunday March 29 2020 felt very different. for starters, my local Byford has been looking a lot like a ghost town. everyone is self-quarantining, which is a good thing when you have all your ducks in a row. and on my run, i kept looking over my shoulder to see if any police vehicle will stop me and tell me to go back home. turns out i didnt even need that to make my run interesting.

very early on, about 2km in, i saw a kangaroo in front of a house. i thought that was odd, but not totally unusual, since Byford is semi-rural. didnt pay too much attention to that. until further in, i saw 5 massive kangaroos fully standing on their powerful hind legs watching me. i couldnt resist stopping, whipping out my phone and taking a short video.

this scene, coupled with a video making the rounds of monkeys going haywire on the streets of Bangkok, Thailand, reminded me of George Orwell’s Animal Farm. they may not be in control - at least not yet - but the novel coronavirus has meant people self-quarantining has allowed these animals some autonomy, a certain boldness to come out and play.

it’s like life imitating art, but hopefully we dont get any Snowballs and Napoleons any time soon!
