What does the Local Guides program mean to me?

Hello everyone!

I’m Yusuf (also known as not your average Joe) and at time of writing I’m a level 5 (really close to 6!) local guide on Google Maps. I’m really excited to share my journey but first, I’d like to share what the Local Guides program means to me.

Organizing the world’s information on Google Maps with the Local Guides program has given people the opportunity to contribute and help others navigate and explore the globe. It is in this very notion of democratized participation and collaboration that’s found in this program that helps humanity come together to make places on planet Earth come to life. People are now able to leave their digital mark anywhere and the Local Guides program helps everyone share their story with an innovative rewards system. It’s easy to do, fun to share and users are able to leave an impact.

So not only can someone leave a mark on Maps through photos, edits, videos, reviews, fact checks, etc but they’re also rewarded for their efforts with cool badges, small gifts and an invitation to apply to the Connect Live 2020 event (and much more!). It’s because of these reasons I believe Google has created the best ecosystem to participate, contribute and share personal experiences around the globe and why the Local Guides program means so much to me.

It gives a voice to the sometimes unheard and a picture for the unseen.

On a personal note, I’ve always felt that my contributions to society go somewhat unnoticed but I finally feel satisfied and happy with the impact I’ve had as a local guide. This program has allowed me to express myself and engage in my local community to make a difference, big or small, and I’m looking forward to making more of an impact in the future.

Overall, it’s fair to say that this program has brought new life into me and I’m personally excited to see how far we can go together in making exploring and navigating the world a bit better on Google Maps with the Local Guides program.

Thanks for reading!
