What does “local guides” mean to me?

What does “local guides” mean to me?

I used to travel a lot for work, I always ask for business cards, store them and take notes whether it was a good place or not, pros and cons, opening times and all the information I thought was useful.

Before google maps i filled 4 business card books with those….

Then google maps & drive allowed me to save this information on my google profiles, I started moving my notes from books to my google profile and my google maps.

Suddenly I discovered local guide program.

This helped my in many ways, at least :

  1. I could store this information online and make it available always for everybody. This makes me feel really helpful!
If I already solved a problem, why should I keep the solution secret?
  2. Help and share with friends: my close friends know I travel and like to keep notes of my travels so … quite often I receive a call like: “I know you have been to Roma, Istanbul, Mexico city, Rio de janeiro, Tel aviv, Chicago, Am’dam…. Could you hint me about the best time to visit chichen-itza or other mayan ruins? The easiest way to get to Rio de Janeiro botanic garden? Any hidden treasures and gems in Milan?“ well now i can mostly answer those questions with a link or just a quick check of my smartphone instead of going through all my books and notes!
  3. I can meet people involved in running local business, make them friends, get information about other special or super peculiar and unknown restaurants or activities, and sometimes get an extra drink…!

Hi @Holatuachiavetta and welcome to Connect!

Thank you for your first post here! I just wanted to let you know that I have removed the Italian language tag of your post as it’s written in English. These types of labels are used so that posts in different languages can be found more easily by Local Guides who are speakers of these languages. You can learn more about language tags in the article: How do I find posts in my preferred language?.

In addition, since you’re new to the community, you might be also interested to check out Your guide to Connect.
