A few years ago, I stayed at my brother’s house in Nevada, USA for a month. At that time my sister in law took me to a one dollar shop named “Dollar Tree”.
There are similar stores in Japan called 100-Yen shop, it is the same in that you can get stationery, sweets, and daily necessities for 100 yen, which is close to $1. But the American store’s lineup looked unique and interesting to me.
First, they were selling $1 Bibles, which was surprising to me, because Bibles aren’t sold in 100-yen shops in Japan. There, a Bible costs 2,000 yen (about 18 dollars now).
Dollar Tree also sells many picture books about the Bible. Of course, they are not thick books that contain all the Bible stories. A small picture book has depicts one episode. For example, the picture book entitled “Miracles of the Bible” mentioned Jesus’ miracles. “Heroes of the Bible” is a book, which introduces some of the famous heroes in the Bible, like Noah, Daniel, and David.
When I saw a picture book about Jonah, I was impressed because the book was only one dollar with a recitation CD.
But the most interesting items for me were toys, those made me laugh the most. For instance, I saw some Ninja Action figures…
ARE THEY NINJAS? 
They were different from the Ninjas I know.
The Ninjas I know wear only black clothes because their job is secret and they work in the shadow at night.
Those Ninjas, how are they going to hide in vivid colors such as blue and red?
Or will American Ninjas fight like heroes without running away or hiding?
…They are brave, but they are not good at keeping secrets.
