What are you Listening-Reading-Watching

“Let it sink” that for a globe trotting community of local guides the year 2020 has been worst. No travels, no going out at your favorite places, eating out , shoping out. We all are home stuck or better home safe.

Through this post i would like to post what i am up to in this lockdown apart from my office work. This can be broadly divided in to three categories. Some people might have other activities too, like playing online games, gaming, learning new instrument, language or keeping themself busy in physical activity or just lazing around the house with family.

What i am listening:

Podcasts : 2020 is the year when i am really hooked up to the podcasts. They are easy to find, short enough to keep focus and variety is huge to select from. From politics , current affairs, sports , science and tech you can find everything here. Some of podcasts i am listening are “The Ezra Klein show” , “waveform - MKBHD”, “Super Soul Conversations- by Oprah Winfrey” . Now a days i am listening these while doing house chores like washing dishes or cleaning the house.

Audible/AudioBook: Finding time to pick a hard copy and carry it around you is not always easy. And thats where audiobooks can greatly help you. Audible is a fantastic way to bring this habit into your life.

Its been around 6 months since i have started listening books during my runs in the morning. Some of my favorite are “A Gentleman in Moscow” , “21 Lessons for 21st century” and “Run to overcome”. Currently listening “Raise”

What i am reading:

I got the reading novel bug in my engineering days. I used to go to library to get some reference books and end up getting fictions/biographies. That habit help me and my wife to built a small library with 100+ books in our house. These are the hard copies which i cherish the most. Here is photograph of the small library i have. Do share you book shelf in the comment section. I am currently reading “City of Djinns” by William Dalrymple. This is about the story of Delhi(Capital of India), its culture, it royalty, its most happy and painful times and How the city has changed through out the history. I am fond of the physical copy of new novel. I read hard copies before going to bed and this way i manage to keep digital world away for some time.

Some of my favorites are “Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini” , “Forty rules of love by Elif Shafak” , “1984 by George Orwell”. I have all these a treasure.

What i am watching:

During this home lockdown lots of people are catching up on some real good shows on various OTT platforms like Netflix, Disney+ or amazon prime. I am not different, there is really very good series, documentaries, movies to watch. I recently watched “money heist” which is originally “la casa de papel” on Netflix. A fantastic show with gripping storyline, cast, background music and locations. What i loved most that show introduced me to “Bella ciao”(My Italian friends can give some brief about this). Apart from this i watch “Free Solo” on National Geographic. This is the story of Alex Honnold climbing El Capitan without any ropes. Its a pure show of human endeavor to achieve most difficult of the goals.

Please recommend some more international shows(other then english) which really are gem and you want us to watch.

Hello dear friend!! I’ve been locked up at home for over 50 days now, so I had a chance to do a lot of things. I try to maintain a healthy balance between passive activities and physical exercise. I’m also dedicating myself to one of my great passions: cooking :pie:

Since I’m a mother of two girls, I’m also playing the role of teacher.

My favorite podcast, which I recommend to all Spanish-speaking women, is: Empoderate Mujer, by Dora Pancardo :headphones:

If I had to recommend a book to you, it would be “La Catedral del Mar” by Idelfonso Falcones :closed_book: :notebook_with_decorative_cover:

.

As for series, my favorite of all times is Black Mirror, but I also enjoyed Unortodox :tv:

.

I’m also taking advantage of this time to watch tutorials and virtual photography classes. It’s amazing how many free courses there are right now. I hope you and your wife are well and I send you a big hug from Argentina :hugs: :argentina:

Hey @CaroGuiniazu yes we are safe and doing good. Happy to hear back from you and know that everything is good at your end. You are busy woman :slightly_smiling_face: doing so many things in parallel. I will surly try to find a english translation for “La Catedral del Mar” by Idelfonso Falcones and give it a go. Black mirror is a fascinating series and really keeps you on tows till the end of each episode. Which one is your favorite? Mine is San Junipero (season 3)

I think you should give tutorial on photography rather taking  your photography skills are pretty neat. Take care and be safe.

Thanks @LiliSol Liliana for sharing it with us. “Forty rules of love” introduced me to the world of Rumi. Post that i bought “The Essential Rumi” and loved reading it. Have a good time and be safe :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you , your reply is an inspiration…I just realized that I read Rumi in many other books and many quotes, but never read his books. It will be the next one.
