I am excited to present a compiled list of 42 cemeteries located in Wells County, Indiana, including pictures and history about each location. This project has taken a me a year to complete. Please take a look and explore the history of Wells County, Indiana! Wells County Indiana Cemetery List
Over the past year, I have been mapping, updating, visiting, and taking pictures of the 42 cemeteries and graveyards located in Wells County, Indiana. This has been an exciting adventure that has allowed me to travel to rural parts of where I live that I would not normally go, and to learn about the history around me. Below is a photo of the Emmanuel Reformed Church that was built in 1911, but has since been abandoned.
Hi @Cody
Welcome to Connect
Are you doing this as a paid project?
The building and its surroundings appear to be in good condition even after being abandoned for a century…
Hello @TusharSuradkar
This is a volunteer project that I am doing.
The church itself is in very bad disrepair, and hasn’t been operating for decades. However the graveyard has an active association that ensures that the grounds remain well manicured. That is why there is such a big contrast for the age and how it looks.
Hi @Cody ,
Your project is very interesting, as well as the Emmanuel Church. It is a pity that such a beautiful monument is abandoned.
Since you have this interest in cemeteries, I thought you would enjoy this post: The Cemetery on the hill of Sapanta.
As this is one of your first posts, you can take a look at Your guide to Connect, where you will find helpful information.
Thank you @Giu_DiB ! I appreciate the reply and resources.
Thank you for sharing your post with us @Cody
Hi @Cody ,
A whole year! Congratulations on completing your project! Your Google Maps list looks great, thanks for sharing it here.
What was your motivation to do this project? Did you have to add some of the cemeteries on the map?
By the way, I’ll merge your first post about Bluffton Indiana Local Cemeteries to this thread, to keep the conversation in one place. Thanks!
@DeniGu Thank you for merging my posts! My motivation was that I noticed a lot of information was missing and I wanted to update and visit each place to make sure others would have the information they needed. There are a few places that I did have to add to the map. They were very small and old cemeteries, but they are now properly marked.
That’s a fantastic initiative, @Cody ! I really think that what you’re doing is great. Have you thought about expanding your efforts to other counties or states?
@DeniGu I have not yet. Although I am considerably rural area, there are many cemeteries and lots of research! I would need a team. The next county over has 130+ cemeteries and that would be a huge effort! It would be a lot of fun, but I would definitely need some help.
Nice place with great photos @Cody !
Thank you @Sophia_Cambodia !
