Wellington Cable Car is quite famous among visitors who visit Wellington city. The Wellington cable car connects between Lambton Quay and Wellington Botanical Garden, crossing Kelburn, a suburb in the hills overlooking the central city, by rising 120 m over a length of 612 m. It was opened for the public since 1902. It is rather small (Funicular), that could put up to 30pax and takes about 5mns to reach the WBG for 2NZ$. It runs every 30mns as there are two, so you do not wait too long to get on the car. The experience was great as you could see landscape, the football field, the Victoria University of Wellington [Kelburn campus], and on top of that - the view back to the city of Wellington when you arrive the WBG. During festival season, they would put light along the tunnels to entertain passengers during this short ride.
- Wellington city is pretty hilly, so Cable car is not a new concept.
- Wellingtonians living around the city, I could remember wrong, use about 500 cable cars (small) to reach their houses on top of the hill.
- Since Wellington is not very big city, you can either walk back to the city or go back in the Cable car.
- It is accessible for everyone.
- There are two cable cars running on this platform
- There is a Cable Car Museum when you arrive the Botanical garden.
