We have a Problem with There was a Problem

I’ve just received a knock back on a meet-up I’m organising, because “The photo that you have used is not your own”.

Well, of course, it is, but you probably guessed that. I already knew from chats with fellow LGs that this is a recurring problem, and a search of this forum shows confusion, complaints, and advice on workarounds that I won’t add to. But we need to talk about the email.

I’m not an aspie and not an expert on ASD, but this seems like the least autism-friendly email I’ve ever read.

The photo that you have used is not your own. Please select an original picture that reflects the aim of your meet-up, as we do not allow plagiarism of any kind on Connect. This is well stated in our Program Rules

Unequivocally accusatory and lambasting the sender for clearly not reading the instructions in the first place.

If we’re serious about being an inclusive community and #OneAccessibility, I’d suggest the wording of this email needs revision.

Hi @deadmanjones ,

Thanks for reaching out.

We are aware that the current rules might be a bit too harsh, but out aim is to keep everyone`s copyrights protected. Local Guides Connect is an open internet space and, please keep in mind that not everyone using our platform has the best intentions like you do.

We are also very open for feedback and appreciate all kinds of Ideas you might have for optimizing and making the program better. Please feel free to suggest anything that will improve our current process. You can do this in our Idea Exchange Section. I can personally assure you that all the Ideas are closely monitored and looked at by a member of our team.

Please submit you meet-up again, once you do, please feel free to tag me here, so i can personally look it up for you.

I just submitted a request for a meet-up for a location that I’ve never been to. I knew that I did not have any pictures of the location. For my situation I used a satellite view of the region from Google Maps. I just got the approval for the meet-up. Could that help you?

@GeorgesHR @I think the rules are fine, and false positives are to be expected. It’s purely the tone I’m raising as an accessibility issue

I’ll cross post as you suggest.

@Denise_Barlock @Thanks for the suggestion. Speaking to other LGs (before this occurred), I think just randomly trying the same thing again will work…
