The magnificent Waterton Lakes National Park was established in 1895. It is located in southern Alberta, right at the American border with the state of Montana. The park is known for its beautiful lakes, waterfalls and the Red Rock Canyon. It is mostly known for hiking, walking, mountain biking, scuba diving and family and kids.
August is the best time to visit the park and endless memories await you.
The Waterton village is very beautiful but very windy
Lakes, waterfalls and a canyon, hiking, walking, mountain biking and scuba diving! This park sounds like it’s got the lot and your photos present this diversity really well. How difficult would you say the trails are? Also, you’ve said that August (i.e. summer) is the best time to visit but is the park open during winter?
Learnt that it is open all year round but not all areas within the park is opened to the public. Some areas of the park may be closed to hiking due to the 2017 Kenow wildfire. I also know for sure that the hotels and the restaurants are closed from end of September to April or so. Check parkscanada.gc.ca/Waterton-open frequently for updates and closures.
The easy hiking trails are: Townsite, Prince of Wales, Linnet Lake Loop, Kootenal Brown, Cameron Lakeshore, Akamina Lake, Red Rock Canyon Loop and Blakiston Falls.
Some of the moderate ones are: Crandell Lake, Lower Bertha Falls, Bears Hump, Akamina Pass Trail, Well Lake, Forum Lake B.C., Summit Lake, Lineham Creek, Lower Rowe Lake and Upper Rowe Lake.
The difficult ones are: Blakiston Valley, Goat Lake, Wishbone, Crypt Lake, Cathew-Alderson, Twin Lakes and Tamarack Trail.
Thanks for your detailed reply @Franconero5 , this national park sounds like an awesome place to visit. By the way as you may not be aware about tagging used here in Connect, when you leave a message or reply to someone it’s a good idea that you properly tag them by typing @ and then from the dropdown list select the name of the person for whom you are leaving the message so that they will get a notification that you have done so otherwise they may not ever know about or see your message. You will see that I have done this at the start of this message to you.
What a wonderful place is this…! Great photos @Franconero5 . Liked all the photos. Very nice place. You seems a great photographer. Very nice post. Thank you so much for sharing it with us .
I know that’s right @Rohan10 . For me, photography is about telling stories and that is what I tried doing with the pictures of Waterton Lakes National Park that I shared on Local Guides Connect . Waterton is very beautiful I tell you especially with its diversity in terms of lakes, waterfalls, mountains and canyon. It is about 2hr 40 min from the city of Calgary, Alberta and it is right across the American border. Thank you so much.
Nature defines Canada especially Waterton . It is so beautiful out there. You can try the Crypt Lake Trail @Ant_Bad_Yogi . It is not your typical mountain trail and as with all mountain hikes, please dress in layers with rain protection.
