Wasavi- A Women-owned Coffee shop at Katsushika, Tokyo

侘寂wasavi (わさび) is a specialty coffee and Japanese tea shop located just a short walk from the entrance of Mizumoto Park. It’s a perfect example of an independent, local business that feels deeply personal and community-oriented.

The name comes from the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-sabi (finding beauty in imperfection and simplicity). Interestingly, the vi in wasavi was chosen to stand for Victory, representing a heart that overcomes challenges. It functions primarily as a takeout specialty shop, though it has a small, clean interior where you can sometimes sit. It is also notably pet-friendly, often welcoming local residents walking their dogs toward the park. 侘寂wasavi (わさび) is a women-owned and family-legacy business p-98

On the occasion of International Women Day 2026, this post is reflection the supporting the Women’s oriented business and a participation of @Globe_trotter_Ish 's great initiative Support Women on Maps Challenge : #SupportWomenBusinessWithMaps:purple_heart:

History behind of Wasavi

Its Generational Root of The business is run by Richesse Co., Ltd., which was established to carry on a legacy. The current shop grew out of a tea business that the owner’s mother had run in the Mizumoto area for over 40 years.

In 2030 the Modern Transition run during the pandemic, the daughter (the current owner/representative) launched the online shop to keep the spirit of her mother’s work alive. In 2022, she opened the physical wasavi storefront at its current location to create a community space that blends her mother’s expertise in Japanese tea with her own passion for specialty coffee.

A Personal Touch has been seen, Because it is an independent, woman-led business, noticed a lot of thoughtful details—like the pet-friendly policy and the Victory meaning behind the name. It’s a true neighborhood gem where the tradition of a local tea mother has been modernized by her daughter.

What Makes it Special

Unlike most cafes that focus on one or the other, wasavi specializes in both high-grade specialty coffee (hand-dripped) and premium Japanese tea. Artisanal Tea: They source high-quality leaves, including Sashima-cha from Ibaraki Prefecture. The owner is known for precisely managing water temperatures (around 60°C for certain green teas) to extract the best flavor. I have orderd the caramel milk latte. The hand drip coffee got so much aroma. They served salted cookie.

Seasonal Treats: Depending on when you visit, they offer unique items like coffee frappes, sweet potato smoothies, or fruit-based shaved ice in the summer.
Gifts & Beans: They sell their own roasted coffee beans and tea leaves, which make excellent gifts. Their “bottled coffee” is also a popular item for souvenirs. They got various coffee cup, coffee making utensils, and many more.

It is often described as a “healing” spot. The owner is frequently praised for being very polite, soft-spoken, and knowledgeable about the drinks.
It’s an ideal stop to grab a high-quality latte or a hot green tea before taking a stroll through Mizumoto Park.
