Hello Fellow local Guides and Googlers, below is the breakdown of the idea I have in mind.

Thought process:

Being a part of local guide community, I have seen and interacted with people who are really passionate about contributing without any returns in mind. Also the local guide program is about being a guide to those who are searching anything in maps.
So the following idea emerged from these thoughts.

Brief Idea:

Have a option for Local Guides in Google Maps to create local walks/tours/experiences

Detailed idea:

  1. A local guide could add/host a Walk/Experience on a particular date and time which will be shown on Google maps to those who are searching for such experiences in that locality.
  2. The option could be available to local guides above a certain level and could go through a maker-approver cycle where whenever a local guide posts a Walk/experience and it would be reviewed by a Googler before it goes live on maps.
  3. On the day of the walk/experience the local guide hosting the walk/experience would need to do all necessary arrangements and guide all the attendees.
  4. The experience could be a historical tour, a shopping tour, a food marathon, festival specific walks or anything else unique to the place.
  5. The experiences could be City Walks to begin with, later more options can be added like a Cycling tour or Trek.
  6. The attendees could just show up on the date and time mentioned by host or could be given option to register through Google forms where required.
    Further attendees could post their reviews and photos in maps.
  7. The local guides must have a option to host the same experience/walk as many time as they can without going through the effort of reposting the whole detail.

Example: One can host accessories Shopping walk around Colaba causeway, Mumbai or Street Food Walk in Mohammed Ali road, Mumbai, or Ganpati Mandal Hopping in Mumbai during Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

(Sorry my examples are restricted to my current city, fellow local guides around the world kindly suggest some walks/experiences you could host or would be excited to attend)

Important

  • These walks/experiences must not be confused as local guide meets as it will be open to all and will be not focussed on the local guide program.
  • The experiences are supposed to be free of cost and if any expenses are to be borne by the attendees must be mentioned by host

Do you know that we have a meet-ups platform where Local Guides can host their own meet-ups?

Local Guides can host their own activity from Food Crawl, Photo Walk, Geo Walk, Map Editing and more.

I recommend reading this post How to Organize a Local Guides Meet-Up which gives you helpful ideas on the types of activities you can plan and some guidance and tips for helping you organize a successful event.

For that reason, I will close your idea.

Hello Angie, thank you for your feedback, I have read the “How to organise local meet up” post, but those meetups are not visible to people using maps who are not part of local guides program, right?

Thanks is something I had mentioned in my idea, that it would be for all and it would be available on maps to those searching for similar activities in that particular area.

Hello @AnirudhShetty ,

Connect is a another level of communication on another stage where Google Maps user can express and share more about themselves.

It is true what you mentioned that these meet-ups wont be visible on Google Maps, but everyone are welcome to join Connect where they can express themselves better, considering the limitation for communication that Google Maps have.

In addition to that, if you have a different idea please write it again on another post as detailed as possible, so we can have a better understanding of your idea.
