Walk along Paseo Montejo, a journey full of history in Mérida and travel back in time, towards those viceroyal and Spanish times, towards those periods of struggle and revolution.
A 360º View of Monumento a la Patria
The entrance to this historical story begins in El Remate, a square full of laurels, which welcomes tourists with its unmistakable aroma.
Later, the immense mansions begin to appear, like the Canton Palace. This has been the official residence of state governors and currently houses the Regional Museum of Anthropology and History. This Porfirian style construction is, simply, a marvel: projecting balconies, moldings and hundreds of details, open pediments, floating voussoirs in the arches and carved in relief.
This is not the only striking architectural work, there are also many Frenchified mansions that are exquisite like the Casa del Minarete, the Casa Peón de Regil, Casa Vales, the Casas Cámara and the Quinta Montes Molina.
The Monumento a la Patria is another characteristic symbol of the walk. If you take a picture there, believe me you will not need to explain where you were! It is the first altar that rises in honor of the Mexican Fatherland; It is also the only monument carved entirely in stone.
If you continue with the tour you will find sophisticated bars and restaurants that are a symbol of the city.
