I’m honored to share a fully self-developed geospatial guide for the Arbaeen pilgrimage (1446 AH) – one of the world’s largest peaceful gatherings.

As a Google Maps Local Guide (Level 10), I independently completed all stages of this project:

  • Field-based data collection across southern and central Iraq
  • GIS route design and satellite validation
  • Graphic design and production of a high-resolution guide map

The result is a unified visual guide that:

  • Features over 14 major walking routes
  • Maps 97+ checkpoints, religious centers, and service hubs
  • Supports millions of pilgrims traveling to Karbala, Iraq

This project is an example of Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) in action — bridging tradition, geospatial technology, and service.

Hello my friend!

I’ve been following your posts for some time, and I find the GIS project you’re working on to be fascinating.

I will go through Google docs to see if I can request a copy of the documentation…

I am thrilled to see a fellow GIS enthusiast on local guides connect and can’t wait to see your project my friend!

Cheers!
