The Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technological Museum in Bengaluru is a paradise for Mechanical engineers like me.
This place is special to me since this was the first place I searched on Google Maps back in 2017. I was new to Bengaluru and not familiar with the prominent language, Kannada. So, taking directions from people on the streets was not an easy option. Reluctantly, I used Google Maps and the rest is history.
I visited here several times between 2017 and 2020, and the recent visit was again in March 2025 as part of the grand mega meetup.
The museum is spread over several floors, but the main exhibits are all from the mechanical industry.
They have used all of the outdoor and indoor space for displaying engineering marvels from the 19th century.
The main hall is huge and has on display magnificent objects like boilers and steam engines.
The top attractions included large-scale models of everyday tiny objects like a zip chain, padlock, pulleys, and spar plugs.
I kept walking through the large floor, amazed by the huge machines that were built and operated a century ago and are now retired.
Here’s another large belt-pulley system that I had seen only in the books or on TV.
Huge flywheels, printing presses, and engines were marvelous industrial equipment on display.
I have been to this museum several times, yet get involved in its charm and beauty and grandeur - such is the enigma of the Visvesvaraya Museum in Bengaluru.
