The museum, dedicated to Sir M. Visvesvaraya, was established in 1962 and is one of the most visited science museums in India. Spread across several floors, it offers fascinating galleries that make science interactive and engaging for all ages.
On the Ground Floor, the famous Engine Hall showcases giant engines, pumps, turbines, steam engines, jet aircraft engines, and other mechanical devices. A working replica of a coal mine provides visitors with an immersive underground experience.
The First Floor features two exciting galleries. The Fun Science Gallery is filled with mirrors, pendulums, optical illusions, rolling balls, and engaging experiments, while the Electro Technic Gallery demonstrates electricity, magnetism, electronics, and different forms of energy through hands-on exhibits.
Moving up to the Second Floor, you’ll find the Space Gallery with models of satellites, rockets, and launch vehicles that highlight India’s space journey, particularly ISRO’s milestones. Alongside, the Science for Children Gallery is designed specially for young learners, offering puzzles, simple machines, and “try-it-yourself” activities that make science fun.
On the Third Floor, the Biotechnology Gallery explains DNA, cloning, genetics, tissue culture, and biomedical applications, while the Electronics Gallery focuses on semiconductors, communication technology, computers, and modern gadgets.
The Fourth Floor houses the BEL Hall of Electronics and Biotechnological Revolution galleries. These highlight India’s progress in electronics and the growing impact of biotechnology in everyday life.
Apart from the galleries, the museum also offers exciting add-ons such as 3D Science Shows, live science demonstrations, sky observation programs with telescopes on special days, and a Science Park with outdoor exhibits for interactive learning.
