Visiting the horse and cowboy city, Houston of Texas

Back in April 2022, my mother and I decided to travel from Seattle to Houston in order to visit her auntie who is bed rest. Since it is for family and relative visiting, I did not hope that we could spend sometimes as a tourist. By that, I did not do proper research for what I could do when arriving this city. There are actually a lot to see around Houston city, but we only managed to visit few of them. I missed the chance of visiting Dallas and San Antonio though and Caddo lake.

Few interesting things about Houston

  • According to the locals, the city has cheaper fuel cost, while Seattle was 5.75$/gallon, HS was only 3.59$/gallon, said the reason for that because Houston produces their own oil.
  • Housing prices is lower than that of Seattle. There are so many big houses and I love it. The styles are completely different from that of Seattle. Houses in Houston are made from brick while most of those in Seattle are made from wood, perhaps from the weather.
  • The weather in the city is hot just like in Cambodia – not a fan of it though
  • Houston is home of George Bush, former president of US, the airport named after him: George Bush international airport
  • Texas is famous for its cowboy’s culture, thus Houston had some of it to prove.

I believe all of us have watched once or twice the Cowboy movies. Well, I visited the town but honestly, I did not feel it because everything has changed and the way the movie portraited it, nothing like the current world today. I might be wrong whether cowboys and horses originated from Houston, Texas. My curiosity only answered when I saw the horse statues in one of the parks in Houston - Hermann Park which attracts so many people to come and visit. There, I saw a local tour guide who dressed up like cowboys with that hat and kinds of jeans and coats… was giving speech during tours to visitors.

@Mukul_Anand thank you. Perhaps I could see more horse range at the countryside, but I was only in the city. I wanted to see the authenticity of the place.

First of all, thanks @Sophia_Cambodia for writing such a post.

Description of the special place has brought out many important information in a very short text. Currently how is the cost of fuel in the city of Houston?

  • However, i learned a new information from this post that Houston is the home of former US President George Bush.

The photos are also taken very well. The visit with your mother was truly wonderful.
