Visiting the Chippewa Tribe at Mount Pleasant, Michigan

I was invited to visit my friends at the Chippewa Tribe at Mount Pleasant, Michigan for a Powwow.

It was a great success and wonderful experience.

I attended on the third day when the Jackson Family continued a 9 year tradition of hosting a Hand Drum Competition! Traditional food and dress and knowledge were shared and I had a great day!

What an experience! @AlfredBrock what this ceremony “Hand drum” is all about?

Greetings.

Silvy.

Hello @AlfredBrock thanks for sharing this post with us .

It seems good to meet the tribes so that we see their life and struggles

I am glad you post this on Connect @AlfredBrock . I was visiting River Raisin yesterday with the hope there would be an event but I was wrong :worried:

It looks vibrant and colorful despite the blurred quality of photos probably because you took them from afar. Thanks for sharing them here @AlfredBrock

Michigan, the home state of my only American bestie :slightly_smiling_face:

Wonderful… Thanks for sharing @AlfredBrock

@AlfredBrock Wow!! Thanks for sharing your experience and the video! Absolutely amazing and it’s so nice to see that the younger generation is maintaining the traditions and keeping them alive!

The Hand Drum is an instrument used by Native Americans. It can be used alone or with dance or with voice other instruments - or all together! The sound is distinctive. Under a skilled hand the drum can produce a wide variety of sounds.

The people of the Chippewa are an integral part of our life. It is only now becoming apparent how much so.

Let me know if you go to River Raisin again and I will join you.

I was glad to be invited. I can’t wait to go again.

You are so welcome!

Let me see if I can find some sharper images for you.
