A few years ago, while being a German resident, I was under a curious situation that required consular help: I needed to renew my national passport! While I have been to many consulates before, it was always as a foreigner requesting visas. So this time was both different and memorable.
To request my new passport, I had to drive to the consulate of the Dominican Republic in Hamburg, Germany. My experience? FANTASTIC! In that small space located at the “Neuer Wall 39” street, I felt a perfect mix between both cultures and was happy to get my problem solved. I was pleasantly surprised to be so welcomed: they were kind, funny, efficient, and made me feel at home, even when we were thousands of miles far away from it.
As a curious fact: in that same visit, I also took the chance to get a few shots, which are now the highlighted photos of the site in Google Maps. So it was a win/win situation!
Tell me, have you ever been to a consulate? How was your experience?
