Hi everyone,
It’s been a long while I posted in Connect. In this post, I will be sharing about my experiences visiting Haji Ali Dargah which is located in Mumbai. I recently visited Mumbai for the very first time and it was in my bucket list since a long time and I finally had the chance to visit it. It was a short four day trip to Mumbai. I will be writing more about my Mumbai trip experiences in coming days.
About Haji Ali Dargah
Haji Ali Dargah (monument of Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari) is located on an islet from 500 metres coast in Worli. It is established on 14th century and it contains the tomb of Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari.
My experience visiting Haji Ali Dargah
On the second day in Mumbai, we had planned to visit Haji Ali Dargah. We had breakfast and left the Hotel around 11AM. From our place, it was around 10kms to reach Haji Ali Dargah. We went to Bus Stop and after waiting for sometime, we got into the bus and it took us to Haji Ali Dargah stop. From the Haji Ali Dargah stop, we have to walk for around 1km to reach the Dargah via causeway. We had planned to offer our Friday prayer at Haji Ali Dargah but unfortunately we reached little late and due to that, we offered our Friday prayer at the mosque located in the Haji Ali Dargah stop. The islet is linked to the city via causeway which is around 1km long.
After our prayers, it was around 2PM, we started walking to reach Haji Ali Dargah. There was lot of crowd at that time and there are so many street shops which are selling apparels, dresses, etc. for kids and ladies. The shops are located on the both sides for a distance and then there is sea on both sides of the causeway while walking towards Haji Ali Dargah. Reaching the Haji Ali Dargah depends on the tides since the causeway can be submerged during high tides and during that time we may not be allowed to visit the Dargah. When we visited water level was very low and we can see the rocks on the both sides of causeway and we enjoyed the beautiful view.
We then reached Haji Ali Dargah and walked around and took photos. There are few shops at Dargah where we bought food and sat inside and had our lunch. We enjoyed the beautiful sea view from the Dargah while having our lunch.
Below is the other side view of sea side from Haji Ali Dargah where you can see so many people on the rocks as there are no tides and water level is also low nearby.
After having our lunch we were sitting inside the Dargah and at that time a group of people came with musical instruments and sat near us. One of my friends recognised seeing them performing Qawwali in his last visit to Haji Ali Dargah few years ago. Qawwali is sufi devotional music usually performed at Sufi shrines. It was also my first time experience seeing Qawwali live and believe me it was just mesmerizing and it felt wonderful. Many tourists and people gathered around and enjoyed the Qawwali and most of them were taking videos of the Qawwali including me.
Around 5PM, we started walking back to the Dargah stop and on the way back, we were amazed seeing the street shops selling great things at a cheap price. We bought watches, sunglasses, apparels, etc. and enjoyed shopping all the way along. There were also so many food stalls on the way back to the stop.
We then got into the bus and reached the hotel location where we stayed and we again did the shopping for the rest of the day nearby and went back to the hotel. I very much enjoyed visiting Haji Ali Dargah and exploring the streets in Mumbai while shopping all along.
