View Count on Google Maps vs Google My Business

Why is there such a huge difference in the view count between Google Maps and Google My Business for the same photo. I have used 3 of my photos that appear on both GM and GMB. View counts on:

Maps My Business

Picture 1 2,773 61.4k

Picture 2 577 78.1k

Picture 3 308 25.9k

Which is correct?

Hi @Shafak

I guess that the images displayed in Google my Business are visible in a web search also and thus get multiple hits.

Whereas, images in Maps have a subdued number of viewers.

@C_T the thing is that these are not two separate uploads of the same photo. They have been uploaded via GMB and visible on GM too. Shouldn’t the views of search count on Maps views too?

Hi @Shafak I am not a GMB specialist but I would give a general response. As a local guide I think the only thing that may give a reason to this it might be the processing time for views between Google map and Google my business. The photos have the same view counnts but does not process the same since here we are talking about 2 different platforms.

This will have negative impact to you here if you are a business and also a local guide. Due to policies and rules, only individuals can be local guides not a business. I hope moderstors will give you the exact answer to your question. Thank you.

@Raphael-Mahumane Thank you for the cautionary advise on GMB and LG. I had created that business place around 2012, long before I became a LG in 2016 or 2017. I’m already aware that one cannot be a business and LG at the same time. I have assigned another person to handle reviews on GMB. There has been no further interaction between me and the GMB listing other than that it was created by me. But, I’m still unsure if this violates LG rules and policies. Could you please tag a moderator who can clear my doubt. Thank you.

I have a question. Are they identical photos in reality? If you posted them as both a business owner and a general local guide, existing two same photos are normal. But it may be violating the GMB rules. Please check the rule out.

If you are not so, and you are a business owner or an associate, by all means, give feedback about it as a bug. The support will not send a reply but they will fix the issue sooner or later.

@HiroyukiTakisawa these photos were uploaded via GMB in 2012 long before I became a LG. Later on, in around 2016 or 2017 when I became a LG, the same photos showed up under my contributions.

I think “GMB” started in 2014, so in 2012 it might be Google Place.

“GooglePlace” is also integrated with Google My Business (GMB), so if you are a POI owner or interested party, please consult with GMB. (As @HiroyukiTakisawa replied)

Usually, even if the owner and the LocalGuides account are the same, you can see the posts from the owner and the posts from the user, but I do not know what happens to the photos uploaded in the GooglePlace era.

ローカルガイドとして個人的見解をコメントさせて頂きます。

(LGCは多言語対応しているので、敢えて日本語で書かせていただきます)

写真のカウントについてですが、これは恐らくマップ側とGMB側で別々のテーブルが存在しています。

そしてそれぞれが独自のカウント方法を用いています。

最近、Googleマップや検索で様々な不具合が起きています。

マップかGMBのカウントがリセットされたりする可能性もありますが、どちらか一方はリセットされなかった場合、大きな差異が発生する状態になります。

閲覧数のカウントについては、どちらのプロダクトも具体的な計測基準が公開されていません。

しかし他の方がコメントしている通り、「マップとGMBが同じ計測方法を用いているとは限らない」という可能性も大いにあります。

特に、連続アクセスの場合の多重計測の除外や、ナレッジパネル外で表示された場合のサムネイル状態での計測などは、どちらかが計測され、どちらがかが計測されない可能性は高いです。

こういった複数の要因があり、このような閲覧数の違いを生んでいると考えられます。

複数のプロダクトやサービスに絡む問題のため、非常に解決は困難が予想されます。

「表示回数が同一でなければならない」「表示回数に信用が持てない」と考えるならば、議論すべき問題かもしれません。
