I am sure that this is celebrated all over the country, and that there are special places, monuments and more, linked to this moment.
I imagine that your images show us exactly this, what here in Italy we call “places of memory” and I am sure that these places are present in Google Maps.

১৬ ডিসেম্বর ১৯৭১ বাংলাদেশের ইতিহাসে এক গৌরবময় ও স্মরণীয় দিন। ৯ মাসের রক্তক্ষয়ী মুক্তিযুদ্ধ শেষে এ দিন পাকিস্তানি হানাদার বাহিনীর আত্মসমর্পণের মধ্য দিয়ে বাংলাদেশ স্বাধীন রাষ্ট্র হিসেবে আত্মপ্রকাশ করে। ৩০ লাখ শহীদের আত্মত্যাগ ও ২ লাখ নারীর সম্ভ্রমের বিনিময়ে অর্জিত এই বিজয় বাঙালি জাতির গৌরবের মাইলফলক।
মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সময় কুমিল্লা ছিল অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ একটি যুদ্ধক্ষেত্র। পাকিস্তানি সেনাবাহিনীর শক্তিশালী ঘাঁটি হওয়ায় এটি মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের জন্য বড় চ্যালেঞ্জ ছিল। তবে সাহসী মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা বীরত্ব ও দৃঢ় মনোবলের মাধ্যমে এই এলাকায় দখলদার বাহিনীর শক্তি নষ্ট করতে সক্ষম হন। সালদা নদীর তীর এবং মেঘনা নদী সংলগ্ন এলাকায় মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা অসাধারণ যুদ্ধ পরিচালনা করেন। কুমিল্লার সাধারণ মানুষ খাদ্য, আশ্রয় ও তথ্য দিয়ে মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের সহায়তা করে। ১৯৭১ সালের ৮ ডিসেম্বর কুমিল্লা শত্রুমুক্ত হয়। বিজয়ের সুবাতাস ছড়িয়ে পড়ে কুমিল্লার পথে প্রান্তরে, যা ১৬ ডিসেম্বরের চূড়ান্ত বিজয়ে অবদান রাখে।
বাংলাদেশের মাটি ও মানুষের কথা এই বিজয়কে আরও গভীরতর করে তোলে। এই স্বাধীনতা শুধু একটি ভূখণ্ডের নয়, বাঙালির আত্মপরিচয়েরও পুনর্জন্ম। মাটি ও মানুষই স্বাধীনতার মূল শক্তি। কৃষিভিত্তিক এই দেশে মাটি যেমন জীবিকার উৎস, তেমনি মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সময় তা রক্তে রঞ্জিত হয়েছিল। প্রতিটি ধূলিকণা ধারণ করে শহীদদের স্মৃতি, আর প্রতিটি নদী বয়ে আনে স্বাধীনতার সুর।
গ্রামীণ মানুষ মুক্তিযুদ্ধে অকল্পনীয় ভূমিকা রেখেছে। তারা খাদ্য সংগ্রহ করেছে, মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের আশ্রয় দিয়েছে এবং গুরুত্বপূর্ণ তথ্য সরবরাহ করেছে। মাটির ঘরগুলোতে মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা আত্মগোপন করতেন, আর গ্রামের নারীরা তাদের সেবায় নিজেকে নিঃস্বার্থভাবে উৎসর্গ করতেন।
১৬ ডিসেম্বরের বিজয় একক কোনো অঞ্চলের নয়, এটি বাংলাদেশের প্রতিটি মানুষের ত্যাগ, সাহস এবং ঐক্যের ফসল। কুমিল্লার ভূমিকা এই বিজয়ে ছিল অসামান্য। বিজয়ের এই দিনে কুমিল্লার মাটি ও মানুষের আত্মত্যাগ আমাদের স্মরণ করিয়ে দেয় যে স্বাধীনতা কোনো সহজ অর্জন নয়। এটি বাঙালির জন্য চিরকালীন গৌরবের প্রতীক।
