Hello, I am here. Wondering if there’s a way that Local Guides could get verified or like if we could create a process for local guys to get verifie? I’ve been watching fake reviews lately on YouTube and it’s been making me think that maybe mine could come off this way, even though I’m not friends with any of the business owners, or anyone in those businesses so I really don’t have much to worry about. Still, is there something that could be done about Local Guides being able to become verified?
I believe you think verification is a means to have your reviews go public or even be marked as more trustworthy than others, right?
There is currently nothing called a verified local guide, but the levels are somewhat of a verification. Although, scammers and spammers can also reach level 10. So the issue is boiling down to how can Google figure out who is trustworthy and who is not.
Many believe that Google Maps keeps track of our individual trust scores for each kind of contribution. The only way to detect this is that some experienced local guides report being able to make some edits while others can not. And we often see that if a local guide posts some substandard reviews his/hers future reviews might not no public, or all his/hers reviews be hidden.
With such features already in place, I doubt that Google will decide to create a verified check mark for us.
How would you suggest Google Maps should decide who is credible and who is not?
Cheers

Thank you so much for the reply. It did shed some light on some of the concerns I had. To be honest, I would not know where to start. After you explained everything, I realize that you were right with the way they have everything set up. If you were to get verified, that would be made off of popularity, and not trustworthiness or how good your post actually are.
Thanks, @_VirgoDragon

PS: It would be very helpful if you would use the tagging tool when replying to someone here on Connect. Type @ followed by the username. Type slowly. Then we get an e-mail notification and you are more likely to get a prompt reply. Just hitting Reply does not ensure we get notified by email.
Of course. I will do my best to remember this when I reply to anyone. Thank you so much for the tipI @MortenCopenhagen
@_VirgoDragon Ya… sometimes I also felt the same. but as @MortenCopenhagen said the presence (levels) is one way. Also during moderation, doubtful postings get filtered out or will not go public and so… That’s a sufficient check because this Google Guide platform is a global community, based on some ethics and noble purposes of assisting or helping out in getting genuine, latest info for travelers, business promotions, social causes and travel, traffic updates, and much more. Let us keep it the way it is … ![]()
