Verified Profile - Following option Google Maps

Hi, dear fellow Local Guides, a week ago I was checking who am I following in Google Maps and trying to find another Local Guide to follow when I found this Verified Profile, ( with a withe tick) with a different type of profile.

I am wondering if someone knows what are these profiles about?

Unforgettable Days

Thanks in advance!

Hello, @SebaasC

As per my understanding, there is no such thing like a verified profile. Anyone having a valid Google Account can become an LG and thus there is no separate verification.

My guess is the person has crafted the display picture (DP)

to emulate that blue tick. Further, the thing appears to be business as a website is displayed in the Bio. I doubt whether the person or entity can continue as an LG.

@SebaasC

It’s looks like business verified profile.

You can check This.

First time I show that.

Tagging @PaulPavlinovich , because he has good knowledge about following queries.

Thanks C_T for your reply.

This is also the first time I’ve seen this. I’m guessing some Local Guides that have their profile enabled to be followed got verified somehow. The check mark is not visible viewing on web, but it’s visible on Google Maps app, so it can’t be custom photo. I’ll see if I can find info and will update here if I have an answer.

This is a plain Local Guide just like the rest of us @SebaasC I notice that their tick is now gone too. Maps does not show the Account Verified tick like YouTube does. I for example have a verified Google Account and the tick is visible in YouTube but I have no tick in Maps.

Thanks for the ping @KishorMali

Hi @PaulPavlinovich

Please see the profile from your mobile and you will see the tick, the link, and the word “Verified” is still there.

Cheers

Yes, first time i show that… @iyudhi @C_T

On google maps app,

This shows as @SebaasC 's image.

Maybe in desktop it’s looks different. @PaulPavlinovich

And blue tick +verified word is still available. You are right. @MortenCopenhagen

I think we need to tag google moderator regarding this new thing or issue.

@KlaudiyaG

Can you check this???

Hi @KishorMali

@sonnyNg is no longer a Google moderator so you may want to tag another Google Moderator.

Thanks. @MortenCopenhagen

I don’t know.

@sonnyNg was my favorite google moderator.

The mystery behind the google moderators are living the connect, it’s can’t predictable.

I edit my previous reply and tagged another google moderator.

In this, I find that when google moderator is become google contributer,

When we typing the username of google moderator, the profile logo has been Displayed,

The background of G is becoming colorful (4 colors) to white.

Means he/she is no more on connect.

And if the colorful background shows it means that google moderator still available.

So we can check that,

directly during tagging!!!

This is my tiny and small observation. I think you know that already before me.

It is possible that it is the account for a verified business @KishorMali except that I’m the verified account on a couple of businesses (via SVTP) and my profile doesn’t show that.

I agree it does appear on Android in Maps App vanilla.

@Flash are you aware of some new verification ticks? Is this the new SVtp verification?

Some of these “verified” accounts are not Local Guides, @PaulPavlinovich , but just List builders.

Just check Culture Trip , or The Infatuation

The only information I have been able to find about “verified account” is related to “non Google accounts” but I don’t think this is the answer.

My answer is:

We know that Google use various sources of data, so my feeling is that for the lists they are also using data from websites or bloggers who are “verified” as trustworthy.

Every verified profile in fact provide a link to a blog, or a website, with the same name, and in there you will find the same information. They are not individual.

What I don’t know (I am curious about that) is how a website can receive this badge, how to contact Google to offer the service (or if is Google that contact you)

Ah in that case @ErmesT I do know what they might be. At one point Google promoted service only psuedo “businesses” like blogs via the predecessor to GMB. For whatever reason some of them used to appear on Maps.
