Hi, dear fellow Local Guides, a week ago I was checking who am I following in Google Maps and trying to find another Local Guide to follow when I found this Verified Profile, ( with a withe tick) with a different type of profile.
I am wondering if someone knows what are these profiles about?
As per my understanding, there is no such thing like a verified profile. Anyone having a valid Google Account can become an LG and thus there is no separate verification.
My guess is the person has crafted the display picture (DP)
to emulate that blue tick. Further, the thing appears to be business as a website is displayed in the Bio. I doubt whether the person or entity can continue as an LG.
This is also the first time I’ve seen this. I’m guessing some Local Guides that have their profile enabled to be followed got verified somehow. The check mark is not visible viewing on web, but it’s visible on Google Maps app, so it can’t be custom photo. I’ll see if I can find info and will update here if I have an answer.
This is a plain Local Guide just like the rest of us @SebaasC I notice that their tick is now gone too. Maps does not show the Account Verified tick like YouTube does. I for example have a verified Google Account and the tick is visible in YouTube but I have no tick in Maps.
It is possible that it is the account for a verified business @KishorMali except that I’m the verified account on a couple of businesses (via SVTP) and my profile doesn’t show that.
I agree it does appear on Android in Maps App vanilla.
@Flash are you aware of some new verification ticks? Is this the new SVtp verification?
The only information I have been able to find about “verified account” is related to “non Google accounts” but I don’t think this is the answer.
My answer is:
We know that Google use various sources of data, so my feeling is that for the lists they are also using data from websites or bloggers who are “verified” as trustworthy.
Every verified profile in fact provide a link to a blog, or a website, with the same name, and in there you will find the same information. They are not individual.
What I don’t know (I am curious about that) is how a website can receive this badge, how to contact Google to offer the service (or if is Google that contact you)
Ah in that case @ErmesT I do know what they might be. At one point Google promoted service only psuedo “businesses” like blogs via the predecessor to GMB. For whatever reason some of them used to appear on Maps.
