Use of timeline data

Hi … i am (was) an avid local guide … level 9 blah blah … i used location and timelime to place pictures … remember where i was .. what was that resteraunt, where was the shop … i use aDSLR … no gps .. .so it was great to correlate my daya …
Last december, i got a mail about timeline changes .. i did what it instructed to keep my 14 years of data … then in march .. it all dissapeared.. at so.e point when i was driving to the shops
It has restarted complete with backup … to march… nobody at google seems to care… did anyone else lose data in this migration
I spoke to google 1 … and got passed arround and basicaly told it was my own fault

I am wondering if i should just abandon google completely .. .and delete all my photos from local guides… all my reviews… all the lot … i am so dissapointed and angry

I’m sorry to hear about your loss of timeline data.

I don’t know about your timeline and options to recover your data. I did follow the instructions when I was asked via email to move my timeline data to my primary phone. And I did turn on the backup feature. I don’t think I lost any data.

But I noticed that the timeline has recently changed from recording routes to instead recording places we visit (stay for a while). So maybe even with your data you would not be able to see precise routes any longer.

My data was all good in february… all seemed OK … and i highlighted this to my wife… and all her data is still there ( since 2016 )

It seems there is no help desk or contacts to understand the problem

I think asking in the Maps Support Forum is your best bet.

And yes, Google is not offering any personal direct support on a free product.

Hahaha … yes i mentioned it there already… lots of people have … and every gets put down … one particular “diamond” user ( or whatever) seems to take delight in telling people that these things happen and they should have followed instructions. When obviously technicaly high end people are asking questions and wondering why Google does not have backups … the guy turns it arround as if to say " well if you are so clever you should have backed up your daya…"
Yeh … i am now at the stage where my “love” of google has sunk well below zero … after many years .. 140M photo views, level9 ( and a half) 75000 points… top 10% reviewer .. (apparently) 450 reviews , emails saying oh wow look where you have been … a new city ( actually been lots of times in 14 years!).
I will with a heavy heart just stop … already have .. but will remove all my photos … they are my photos, my reviews … again they are my reviews

Bitterly dissapointed by the whole experience… and google don’t give a … well they don’t

I noticed you are considering deleting all your photos and reviews from Google Maps.

This will be a considerable investment of your time as each photo and each review will need to be deleted manually. There is no batch delete functionality. Even if you delete your Google account your contributions will remain on Maps as far as I remember.

I explained the different methods to leave here

I’m sorry to see you leave. But thanks for clearly explaining how the sweet talking and praise played a role in your decision.
