I understand today is the weekend, but this is a very urgent case. Some parts of the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Hyrcanian Forests, have been burning for more than 10 days, and this has caused significant damage to this ancient natural heritage
It should be a major focus of attention for people in Iran, around the world, and especially for the neighboring countries, to help as soon as possible. I believe that simply marking it on Google Maps could help a lot.
Fully agree with you, @Amiran
IMHO crisis alert should be expanded by Google worldwide, independently from sanctions and political restrictions. Especially for wildfires, one of the detection ways is satellite view, as we can see from some active wildfire in Kenya (from satellite sources)
“How does Google generate fire alerts? We generate fire alerts with a deep learning model that tracks fire boundaries with real-time satellite imagery. The model is based on superresolution image fusion of hyperspectral imagery from third-party satellites” (source)
Hello @Amiran,
Are you expecting this help from Local Guides or from Googlers? I’ll be happy to help. Could you please explain in simple steps what needs to be done from our side?
@PrasadVR , crisis alert is a functionality fully managed by Google.
There is not to much we can do as Local Guides, other than support @Amiran in asking Google to expand the feature worldwide.
As most of the information about wildfires are gathered using real time Satellite images, IMHO there is no logic in excluding some country. Actually Google only says “We may not support your location yet. We’re working to expand our global support.”
Thanks dear @ErmesT
It is indeed available but I think only when it is widely covered by English medias or some large earthquakes.
For example I remember fire alert for areas in Zagros Forests in the western part of Iran.
