I’ll introduce two unmanned stations of Kamaishi Line as a post of #monthlytopic, February, 2020 - Station. They are near the border of Tono and Sumita. Nowadays, very few customers are using them because a highway was accomplished and most of the people moved to bigger cities. Of course, trains are also only a few a day. But they are still necessary stations for the people. I’m anxious about their future but anyway, please look at them as a memorial.
Both the stations look nice @HiroyukiTakisawa . But their loneliness disappoints me. In Hirakua Station I can see a bicycle which indicates that someone comes here. So this is at least less lonely than the Ashigase station I think. Thanks a lot for choosing this nice topic for this month.
I used Hirakura Station in my youth. That time, there were a lot of people there. The parking space for bicycles was narrow for us. It’s a good memory for me now:-)
we are very much lucky to see the favorite place of one of our favorite moderator @HiroyukiTakisawa . Thanks for sharing the place related to your boyhood. I can feel the nostalgic feeling of you for this station. Regards.
@HiroyukiTakisawa I have seen it in Japanese cartoons. I think I have read about it when I planned to visit Tohoku. Anyhow, I look forward to your story about it. Thank you for sharing this post with us.
Yes, it is true to see them so empty and desolate these stations make a little sadness.
They seem there to give shelter in case of need (rain or whatever) instead of being stations.
Unfortunately, it is the price of progress that we have to pay.
I never know that this kind of station, the unmanned station because of very few customers, does really exist, @HiroyukiTakisawa -san.
I only know this kind of place from anime and manga I’ve watched/read. I think it’s very gloomy-romantic.
But when the station is unmanned, @HiroyukiTakisawa -san, who’s operating it when there’s customer want to ride the train? Are they just buy the ticket from ticket machine?
It’s really interesting places, @HiroyukiTakisawa -san. Thanks for sharing with us. Arigato
It’s a good question. Customers need to open the door and take a boarding certificate inside the train by themselves. And they pay the charge at the arrival station using the boarding certificate.
Some people are believing all the trains and stations in Japan are the newest and advanced but it is wrong. There are still a lot of ways here and there in Japan. I guess experiencing them is also fun sometimes:-)
Actually, such stations often appear in a movie and an anime. They were usual in my youth but they will be likely to disappear sooner or later. It’s a bit sad for me
