Unique Worship and Astronomical Wonders at Hampi's Virupaksha Temple

The Virupaksha Temple at Hampi is renowned for its distinctive worship practices and remarkable astronomical features. Within this ancient temple, both Vishnu and Shiva are venerated in a unique arrangement. The main sanctum houses a Shiva Linga dedicated to Shiva, known as Virupaksha. Interestingly, an underground chamber within the temple also features a statue of Vishnu placed alongside the Shiva Linga. This rare integration of worship practices symbolizes the unity and complementarity of these two deities within the same sacred space.

Adding to the temple’s allure is the phenomenon of the inverted shadow, which occurs when the shadow cast by the temple’s tower appears inverted at certain times of the day. This extraordinary effect underscores the temple’s advanced astronomical alignment and symbolizes the connection between the divine and earthly realms.
