Unforgettable Himachal - Rohtang Pass and Manali

The Rohtang Pass, the perfect spectacle of nature, lies 50 km north of Manali in the Eastern Pir Panjal. It connects Himachal Pradesh’s two beautiful valleys–Manali and Lahaul & Spiti. The name Rohtang means’ ground of bodies’ and this pass was assigned due to the number of people who lost their lives in the past trying to cross it.

Yet, when it is accessible and open to the public, countless travellers throng it over the span of 6 months. Here, adventurers and cycling enthusiasts reach brave slippery roads, their dangerous curves, and sometimes extremely raw weather. Snow - capped mountains welcome the reward for this effort, breathing in the fresh mountain air, and experiencing a challenging journey’s thrill.

The drive up to the Rohtang Pass is of immense pleasure as you pass by the picturesque sprawling landscapes draped in white blanket of snow, leaving you spellbound by the mesmerizing natural beauty of nature. Along with Rohtang Pass, one can also visit the Sonapani Glacier and the peaks of Gaypan, known for its beautiful views and peaceful ambience, Rahala waterfall which is 32 km by road amazing glacial rivers of Bhaga and Chandra and the famous sacred site of Beas Kund, the source of the Beas River.

N.B: There is no option to stay at the Rohtang Pass, but it is 50 km away that tourists can stay in Manali.

How to get to Rohtang Pass

Train: The closest station is Joginder Nagar at a distance of 104 km from Manali. From Manali, you can either hire a taxi or take a bus.

Road: Private taxi and state buses run frequently from Manali to Rohtang Pass, which is almost a 2-hour ride. It is recommended to take a cab as the drive is difficult due to slippery roads and narrow curves.
