Unable to upload videos from my Windows 11 PC

@MortenCopenhagen @AdamGT @TravellerG @shunsader @ErmesT @LudwigGermany @TerryPG @tony_b @Annaelisa

Hi,

About a month ago I discovered I was no longer able to upload videos from my Windows 11 PC. I did all the usual trouble shooting. Restarted the PC, cleared the cache, tried Opera, Chrome browsers, latest updates, latest drivers, and definitely definitely less than 30 seconds per video. Tried both .mov and .mp4 formats. I have uploaded 300 video previously without any major issues.

I like to download and edit the video from my iPhone including remving the soundtrack where it is not relevant or helpful.

I am able to upload the same files directly from my iPhone 15 Pro Max. There is a workaround which involves uploading the edited video to iCloud from my PC and then sharing it to my iPhone. From there I can upload it but this is way too cumbersome.

Sorry @nigelfreeney If this is an I phone, cloud issue I can not help. One question?

Are you taking the videos with your i phone?

@nigelfreeney I upload videos directly from my Android phone without editing. Sorry I don’t have experience with this scenario.

@nigelfreeney

This has been reported already.

And I saw it yesterday on my Chromebook. I then emailed the file to my Android phone and could upload it from there without any problems.

You are absolutely right, dear friends @MortenCopenhagen , @nigelfreeney @TerryPG and @tony_b

“Unable to upload Videos” with the comment similar to: “The format is not compatible”… This was the case with me for the past at least 6 months…

But the same gets uploaded from Android mobiles and tabs.

To be honest, I stopped reporting because it’s just a waste of time… No one is bothered there…

Sorry…it is more of my frustration…hope you all can understand it well…

Work around

Whilst this is being resolved I have discovered a workaround which is reasonably straightforward.

Downlaod the video from iPhone to PC. Connecting the iPhone to the the PC using a USB port should allow you to see the photo/video storage folders as a USB drive in Windows Exporer. I use a program called iMazing 3 for this.

The file I downloaded, 1920px x1080px/30p MP4 was 64MB. I edited using Cyberlink PowerDirector 365. I removed the audio exported it 1920px x1080px/25p MP4 which gave me a file size of 9MB.

WhatsApp allows files up to 16MB to be transferred. Added the file to a WhatsApp chat on the PC.

Click the send arrow

After tapping on the video file, click on ‘Save’

Next click on ‘Save Video’

Swipe apps left or right to show the Google Maps icon

Check that tthe uploading to destination is correct. If the destination is not correct tap on the blue words.

Type text in to the search until your required location appears in the list. Then tap on that option

Then submit the images and or movies to that location.

I hope this helps anyone who is having this issue until it is fixed.

Hi @TerryPG ,

Yes I am taking my videos with my phone but want to edit them on my PC before submitting them. This has not been a problem until very recently.

Cheers,

Nigel

Ok @nigelfreeney makes more sense now, I’m using Android phone and editing everything on the phone.

Hi @MortenCopenhagen ,

Any updates on this bug? It’s still an issue for me.

It makes me chuckle, ironically, because Google made the decision to prioritise videos, and then the really simply way to upload them from your PC.

I have found a better workaround if you have a Google account. You get 15GB of Google Drive space free for all the storage on your account including any emails etc. If you install Google Drive on your PC, I assume Chromebook would work the same way, You can then upload the videos or images up to your drive. Once you have posted it successfully, you can delete it from your My Drive folder on your PC or other device.

Hi @nigelfreeney

I’m not aware that the bug has been fixed. In fact, currently uploading photos from the Android app is also disabled or affected by a bug.

Uploading via Google Drive is parallel to uploading via Google Photos which I use all the time.

If you share the link to where this problem was first reported I will try to escalate it.

Oh, this is the thread. Sorry. I can not confirm the issue is still around from my Chromebook. Actually, it works okay on my end.

I think we need more examples of this.

All the best

Morten

@MortenCopenhagen Your response to @nigelfreeney is puzzling to me, as the Android app is what I use 99% of the time, with no issues resulting.

To @nigelfreeney @MortenCopenhagen @tony_b Unfortunately count me in as well, I am unable to contribute photos or videos thru my Windows 11 Desktop. I was able to include 3 photos with a review but not separately. I tried yesterday and today. I can see contribute on my android phone but would much prefer the ease of using my desktop, especially for an old guy.

I really wonder " What’s next Google?"

The upload from Android bug was fixed last week. So obviously they were not related.

For 5 years I have contributed my photos and more recently directly from Google photos to the POI. Thru a search.

I would search Google for the POI and then add my media. As stated that’s no longer working. I searched Google Maps Help and came up for me an easy solution.

I now search for the POI in Google Maps Search Bar and once found you have a button that states “Add your Media”. Easy solution for me and now I can continue to use my desktop for contributions.

Hi @TerryPG ,

I am pleased that you have your functionality back. Unfortunately it is still broken for me. Perhaps a fix has been made with this method, and is being rolled out… Who knows

Cheers,

Nigel
