Today I just found a new bank ATM in my town. And tried to add the same in Google Maps through android mobile phone but the Category (ATM) is not showing during new place creation. I have updated the Maps app but still not showing the category. Then I tried to create from my Laptop and the Category appearing but the place creation is not applied mentioning “Google is not accepting edits to this location’s phone number”. It is mentioned that I have not added any phone number for the ATM; I have added Photos, timing, opening date and edited the address.
Bank and ATMs are categories where a lot of restrictions are applied when it comes to creating and editing them @BijohnAdams , so I am not really surprised by that. And from information that other local guides have provided here on Connect I know that there are additional general restrictions on phone numbers in India.
But you are right that the notification you get does not really make sense. Especially since it also says ‘2 photos added’. That what exactly were those added if the POI was not created???
Perhaps you could try to add it again with only name, address and category and nothing else. That should increase the chance of getting it approved.
Good to know about ‘Cashpoint’ @Rohan10 . When I switch my phone to English and type ATM, that now is indeed one of the options that pops up in the list.
That’s an unusual finding, @BijohnAdams
Ordinarily, the categories available in the app aren’t different than the ones in the web version of Maps.
Further, it’s sad to note that along with phone numbers, there is going to be a restriction in adding an ATM also.
I could add an ATM around two years back. Thus, constraint appears to be a recent creation.
Or, is that an effort to promote the cashless culture?
@ErmesT thank you so much for your valuable reply. As @JanVanHaver suggested I just tried another time. Yes, I am agree ATM, Bank related edits are sensitive one.
@C_T sir thank you for your concern. As @AmbrishVarshney bhai mentioned Bank related edits are sensitive cases and there are so many scams in our country.
The difference between the app and desktop version is indeed intriguing @C_T@BijohnAdams , but I think I have found the explanation.
In the desktop version of Maps, you can only choose US English from the list of languages and in that list the category is called ATM. In the app on mobile devices, however, you will have the ‘local’ English list and there the category is indeed Cashpoint.
