Umaid Mahal Hotel - Living a Royal Life

It is not often that one gets an opportunity to live the life of a royal whom you have known only through stories or seen on the silver screen in films. On the recent trip to Jaipur we booked two nights in Hotel Umaid Mahal. A Mahal means a palace.

The main gate of the hotel appears like a beautifully decorated grand Rajasthani fort which typically has a small door inside a main larger door. The main door itself is golden giving it a royal look.

Below is a photo of a window that looks grand and nicely decorated with a pattern.

Another important attraction at the main entrance is the door attendant or the Dwarpal painted on each side of the entrance.

The waiting area near the reception also has a royal touch complete with a high-quality Rajasthani style cushioned sofa. Also, note the ceiling which is painted in detail, and the painted frames on the walls.

Here’s a close-up view of one of the paintings hanging on the wall which shows a Rajasthani woman covering her face partially with a head scarf.

After the reception is the way to the lobby area which has been given a look and feel of the king’s court or Darbar and again has statues of Dwarpal on either side.

Inside the courtyard or the lobby area are rows of royal furniture for discussing and socializing.

On the far side of the durbar lobby is a small balcony with Ganesha on the outside of a stone-carved net and a beautiful blue hanging set of lamps.

On the backside of each seat the walls are painted with royal processions with animals like the elephant, camel, and horses.

After this are the rooms which are nothing short of a king’s room ina real palace which has a royal look with all modern facilities like TV, fridge, AC, showers, and lamp-shades.

The swimming pool in the Umaid Mahal is equally beautiful with an attractive Peacock painted on the wall.

The next main attraction of this hotel is the roof-top restaurant that serves high-quality food.

The dinner can be enjoyed along with live dance and music.

Finally, I should also mention that there is also a small but again beautifully decorated temple of Ganesha just outside the main gate but inside the hotel premises.
