Travel from Palermo to Santorini - exploring the Greek islands (again:)

Good morning travelers!

As a top recommendation for this summer, there are few places that compare to GREECE, amazing not only thanks to the scenery, but also the people, history, culture, and last but not least, the cuisine.

I started exploring the Greek islands years ago and I keep coming back ever since: every time to a different islands, because the choice is really impressive!

This time I went for #santorini #ios and #naxos and then back to Athens.

If any of you has any insider tips regarding smaller, less known, but nonetheless fantastic islands, Greek or not, I’m looking forward to your comments! :slight_smile:

My favourite part of Greece is Crete @DORINA there are some great ruins and the island is so small its easy to explore. There are the Euro tourist beaches but there are also lots of small towns and villages that are enjoyable to visit and experience.

Welcome to Connect @DORINA ,

Which is your favorite island so far? Could you tell us more about what did you like about the culture or the food? Also, adding photos to your posts make them more appealing!

I agree with @PaulPavlinovich , Crete is an amazing place that you should include in your bucket list. However it isn’t small and, you will need a month to explore it. On the other hand Alonisos is one of the not so well known islands and the locals will make you feel like home.

@PaulPavlinovich

Yes, I agree, Crete is amazing! I’ve been there already, last year in winter :slight_smile: the place had an unique charm… I absolutely loved Iraklio, Knossos, Rethimno & Chania, as well as the beaches… unfortunately I didn’t have time to check out more villages and the Eastern coast, but I plan to return!

I also adored Naxos, Rhodos and Lefkada, the town Parga, Xanthi or Kavala… I really can’t think of a Greek place I haven’t loved :slight_smile:

Well, that’s a difficult question… I loved all 13 Greek islands I’ve been to so far! Especially because of the amazing memories and the wonderful people I met there! However, among my favourites I would definitely include Naxos, Santorini, Ios, Paxos, Rhodos, Lefkada, Korfu (not only thanks to the nature and the fantastic color of the sea!!! but also due to the existence/proximity of towns, which I find enchanting!

Alonisos is a wonderful idea, though! Thanks!! I plan to go to Egina, Poros & Idra, too… Skyathos & Karpathos also caught my eye, the only thing would be finding the right connecting flights.

(P.S. I sure tried to add some pics, but I guess the format size exceeds the requirements; will reduce it and then try again)

If you want a beach, there is always Elafonisi at one end of Crete too - it seems its a separate island but there is a land bridge via shallow water to Crete.

Not an easy decision to take @DORINA ,

You can visit Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos, as they are very close. You can rent a boat, with or without a captain, from Volos and sail to Sporades. When there don’t forget to try “strifti” cheese pie of Skopelos. Also, in Egina don’t miss the pistachio spoon sweet.

Also, the file size limit of the photos is ~3MB at this point to ensure the site loads quickly for Local Guides with all connection speeds since Local Guides access Connect from all around the world with different access types (mobile, desktop) and speeds.
