Training Future Digital Explorers with Google Maps and Earth

Hi everyone! I’m Sophat Chy, a Local Guide, digital content creator, and currently a trainer at the Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology (CADT). I recently had the chance to lead a training session focused on productivity tools, and two tools that sparked great interest among the participants were Google Maps and Google Earth.

As a content creator and educator, it’s rewarding to show how these digital tools can unlock curiosity and support everyday tasks—from finding the best coffee shop to virtually visiting Angkor Wat.

What makes me proud is seeing young learners realize that they can be digital contributors, too—mapping their villages, reviewing local shops, and telling their stories online.

Looking forward to more sessions like this and continuing to inspire digital exploration across Cambodia.
Let’s map the world together—one local story at a time. :world_map::sparkles:

That’s truly inspiring, @SophatCHY
Your role as both a content creator and educator is creating a real ripple effect—empowering the next generation to not just consume digital content but contribute meaningfully to it. Teaching youth how to use Google Maps and Earth to tell their own stories and spotlight local gems is such a powerful way to preserve culture and promote community growth.

Out of curiosity—what kind of local places or stories do your students enjoy mapping the most during your sessions?

In our sessions, my students especially enjoy mapping local food, pagodas, community landmarks, and even hidden places in their hometowns. What’s exciting is they don’t just add places—they also contribute photos, suggest edits, and even create their own personalized maps using Google Earth.
