Pencok,traditional salad from Indonesia

The weather in Yogyakarta is hot because now it is the dry season. Hot weather like this we usually look for fresh ones for snacks.

Indonesia there is one type of traditional snacks whose ingredients are from fruits. If in the previous article I shared the recipe Snack from fruits

So this time I want to share the recipe ‘Pencok/Rujak’

Ingredients consist of:

~1 pineapple, peel and clean

~2 mangoes (Indonesian people like mangoes that are not too ripe)

~3 cucumbers (if the cucumbers are large enough we only use 1)

~half-cooked papaya according to taste ~watermelon according to taste

~fried tofu according to taste

~chili 3 (to taste)

~200grm brown sugar

~salt to taste

~shrimp paste to taste (optional)

fruits

brown sugar,salt,chilli,shrimp paste

How to make:

~all the ingredients that have been peeled and washed clean cut into pieces like the photos below

fruits

For the sauce, puree chili, shrimp paste and salt after that add brown sugar after the sugar and chili are mixed evenly add a few pieces of cucumber, the point is so that the water from the cucumber can thaw the mixture of brown sugar and chili until you get the right sauce like the photo below

how to make sauce

‘Pencok’ is ready to be enjoyed by slicing the fruit into brown sugar sauce or we can sprinkle the brown sugar sauce on top of the fruit slices.

This snack is the most favorite snack from ladies in Indonesia. Some time the ladies hangout and they do party and the party call is ‘Mencok/Ngrujak’ and the meaning is enjoy the ‘Pencok/Rujak’ with ladies friends☺

Simple once this Indonesian traditional snack. Hopefully all of you want to try to make it in your own home.

Salam

@AnikSetyawati @FalguniP It’s hard for me to read such recipes. So many tasty fruits, which are very expensive here: pineapples, mango, papaya, watermelon (watermelon is seasonal, not expensive) and you add chilli, shrimp paste… It sounds like some kind of barbarism for me :flushed: .

Though if you add simple apples there, it would sound better for me, but maybe barbarism for you :upside_down_face: .

Where are come from @OlgaKlimchik ?

Ooh…so sad know about how expensive the fruits in your place

Don’t worry…you can use Apple, pear ,cucumber ,or another fruits that ready and cheap in you place.

And the shrimp paste is opsional, you can made sauce only from brown sugar and chilli, because the poin from the recipe is sauce

Okay…hope you make your rujak by own and taste the yummy

Thank you :hugs:
