গণদাবির বহিঃপ্রকাশে বাংলা ভাষা আন্দোলন বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামের একটি মৌলিক অংশ ছিল। ১৯৫২ সালের ২১শে ফেব্রুয়ারির এ আন্দোলনের মাধ্যমে বাংলা ভাষাকে ঘিরে সৃষ্ট মৌলিক অধিকার রক্ষাকল্পে তদানীন্তন পাকিস্তান অধিরাজ্যের অন্যতম রাষ্ট্রভাষা হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠার লক্ষ্যে গণদাবি ঘটে। এ আন্দোলনে পাঁচজন ভাষাশহিদ হিসেবে রাষ্ট্রীয় স্বীকৃতি পেয়েছেন: আবুল বরকত, আবদুল জব্বার, রফিকউদ্দিন আহমদ, আবদুস সালাম, ও শফিউর রহমান
এ আন্দোলনের মাধ্যমে বাংলাদেশের সংস্কৃতি, ভাষা, ঐতিহ্য, সাহিত্য, শিল্প, খেলাধুলা, সৌধ, প্রতীক, ও বাংলাদেশের প্রবেশদ্বার দেশের মানসিকতা ও স্বাধীনতা চেতনার উন্নতি হয়েছে। এ আন্দোলনের শহীদ স্মৃতি অম্লান করে রাখার জন্য শহীদ মিনার গড়ে ওঠে। এটি বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামের একটি অমূল্য অংশ, যা আমরা সবাই সম্মান করি।

It’s amazing how that here in Africa Nigeria speaks the highest number of languages. Although we have the 3 major languages and ethnic groups of Hausa Igbo and Yoruba yet we have about 300 ethnic groups and 500 hundred languages spoken all over Nigeria. By the way the 3 moderators from Nigeria are from the 3 major ethnic groups in Nigeria.
Yet we don’t have this celebration of international mother language day. I wish we do really. Lots of these native tongues are going extinct. People are preferring to speak in English rather. It’s not bad really but we could use English as well as preserve these native mother tongues.
While we don’t celebrate this,yet I wish you all a happy celebration and thank you for your good work on the local guides scenes. Happy celebrations to all out there in Bangladesh.
