Tansen a very famous figure in the Indian Classical Music whose tomb is situated close to his spiritual Master’s Tomb in Gwalior. A tribute to a great Master is necessary while visiting the Gwalior.

Tansen who was a great composer and singer of various classical ragas famous in Indian classical music. He remain in the court of Raja Man Singh Tomar and in the court of Rewa Naresh Raja Ramachandra Singh. Where he was invited to join the Mughal Court of Emperor Akbar and was one of the nine jewels of Akbar and was titled as Mian, referred to the scholars. He was an excellent player and knowledgeable of various musical instruments. He was well known for his talent and amazing abilities. He died in Agra either in 1586 or 1589 AD and his remains were buried close to his Master’s Tomb of Ghaus Mohammad. His tomb is simple and elegant, having decorated stone pillars, which are supporting the roof. Decorated stone capitals and brackets supporting the stone hang outs, stone screens as railing and it’s not having the walls. Complete structure is built on a raised platform. A Tamrind Tree close to the Tomb or Samadhi. According to legend those who are chewing the leafs of this tree will have the sweet or melodious voice.

It’s a major attraction among the music lovers. It needs hardly half an hour. Nearest attractions are Tomb of Mohammad Ghai’s, Maharani Laxmibai Smarak, Italian Garden etc. It’s a major attraction among history buffs wanderers soulseekers art culture and Architecture lovers. Annual Tansen Sangeet Sammelan or Samaroh organised in the December month remain a major attraction among the singers, composers and instrumentalists.
