Tokyo Patisserie

For the tourists and staycationist, green tea and sugar cookies are great, but let’s face it, nothing rivals French confectionery and chocolatiers.

If and when you decide to visit Japan, keep in mind that its patisseries are amongst the finest in the world, even according to European standards.

In this post I will introduce a few greats and their confection.

Arnaud Larher

Another icon in French baking is AL, one of the most beloved chocolatiers in the world. Known for his creativity, innovation, and chocolate fusions.

The Toulose Lautrec was made with 4 different chocolates and was very creamy and exquisite. Next time I will try the Tarteletto Citron, a super favorite for lemon lovers.

Thierry Marx La Boulangerie

One of the more exciting bakeries in Tokyo is Thierry. The man / pastry chef is world-renowned for it Brioches. I recommend the pain suisse since if’s not too common I come across these. It too is a type of brioche with chocolate chips and vanilla cream. His Instagram page and websites are amazing.

#ORDER - The croissants fresh in the morning! It’s important to understand that croissants were not allowed to be sold in Japan from this store until recent years. The way the croissants are made and baked are a little different and have the most original and authentic taste of Paris - if you’ve been there.

Next, order the vanilla Macroons and the the madeleines, sit down and have a coffee and use the headphones which are provided at the table.

#Price - of course a little pricey and worth it.

Philippe Conticini

This is a photo of an apple Kouign Amann! You should heat this in a toaster oven for one minute. If the butter content don’t kill you right away, you can still experience a little heaven.

Tokyo is definitely spoiled with amazing patisseries. This tiny shop is a super rare gem in Shibuya! The shop is called Philippe Conticini. This man transformed the world of gastronomy by introducing vertical food served in a glass.

His chocolate cakes are delicious and is one of the hallmarks of his legacy. I highly recommend his Tarte Tatin apple pies. Finest ever.

I had my very first Kouign Amann here and it was superb! The most buttery, salty, sweet and crispy bread I have ever had. Hot cocoa is sweet and bitter and thick! The apple turnovers were puffy and flavorful. There’s a toaster oven you can use to eat everything. < highly recommend.
