Tokyo is definitely a heaven for Foodies - Part I

Tokyo is one of the most popular cities to visit for Taiwanese. There are dozens of reason why we love Tokyo because of its culture, friendly & sweet people, geographic location…etc and most importantly, food.

There is a great variety of food options in Tokyo from authenticity to fusion and tradition to modern. I would like to share what we tried and separate them into 2 parts.

Hōtō

Most people try Hōtō (餺飥麵, ほうとう), which is a noodle soup and popular regional dish originating from Yamanashi, made by stewing flat udon noodles and vegetables in miso soup during the visit of Kawaguchiko.

Ramen

Ramen Hayashida Shinjuku is definitely a hidden spot for local people with great reviews on Tabelog食べログ, which is like yelp in Japan.

Tonkatsu

Tonkatsu Maisen Aoyama Honten is one of the most famous chain restaurants for Tonkatsu in Japan.

Their fried pork chop was super juicy inside with crispy & chunky layer. The best way to enjoy is dipping in the special sauce with white radish purée.

Japanese Shabu-Shabu

Breakfast Teeshoku

Kozantei Ubuya is the best hotel we have ever stayed in our life so far with private hot spring. Their dinner and breakfast were extremely delicate and delicious. We had 2 sets of Wagyu shabu-shabu for dinner and grilled salmon teeshoku which is known as a meal set for breakfast.

Thanks for an amazing post @Wei929 ! I love tonkatsu maisen, and the ramen place looks delicious! Just curious, are you currently there? I’m wondering how the tourism in Japan is impacted due to COVID-19. I heard the country is currently on lockdown? I can’t wait until this whole thing is over so I can visit Japan again and eat tasty food.

@KatyaL Thank you so much for your compliments and reminders.

I am 100% sure all the photos were taken by me or my husband and I also used in my local guide contributions. (If you saw someone using our photos, we have interest to know.)

The phone numbers in the post I used the information from google map links and I didn’t get any benefit from them.
Actually, I used this format in my other posts for restaurants or landmarks many times and I apologize I don’t know I shouldn’t have this information.

@iyudhi Thank you so much for asking. No, I went there in January and the situation was under control at that time.

@MichaelSNovilla Thank you so much for your compliments and I am glad you love my post :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I love Japan so much and hope we can visit shortly.

@Wei929 where in Taiwan do you live? I also loved visiting and exploring Taipei, Taichung, and Yilan in January 2018. The Brick Ark Museum was fun, the markets wild (so many scooters), filled with amazing endless foods, and people were kind and friendly. A delightful mix of old and modern. Good times for me, a wanderer who loves exploring new places!

The two ladies below serving noodles were so FAST!! Yum!

I am from Nantou, the country in the middle of Taiwan and next to Taichung, but I currently work in New York.
