I currently have written 2665 reviews, most of them with over 200 characters offering a detailed explanation of the place. Writing reviews is definitely my main source of contributing to Google Maps, along with photos and videos accompanying the review.
Unfortunately, I don’t have time to write reviews every day. Does that sound like you? Keep on reading then.
I would like to share my way of writing as many reviews as possible of my daily life when I am home, and when I am traveling.
The golden tip I can share is, take photos of every place you visit!
In your daily life at home, when you go to your local bakery, or visiting your laundry shop, or supermarket. Or any of the other “Boring” daily life staff: Just take some photos when you go here and there. Perhaps also star the places you are visiting.
When traveling, you are likely to visit more places than in your daily life. Also take pictures of your hotels, restaurants, public toilets, etc.
Then every weekend when you have free time, allocate a few hours to go through your photos from the past week chronologically.
=> For example, if you are doing it every Sunday, start with your photos on Monday and do every day until you hit Sunday. Next week you do this again.
By doing this, you get to enjoy your daily life without feeling an urge to write reviews every time you visit. Especially when traveling, I don’t like to write the reviews at the moment. I like to do this when I am comfortable at home.
By doing this method, not only will you increase your reviews count massively, you will also increase your uploaded photos and videos. Make your reviews count over 200 characters, which gives +15 points. You will see your points increase like a rocket.
Hello @Stphn,
I strongly agree with your tips, specially:
Even though, I don’t emphasize on reviews, but merely on photos, edits and regularly responding to the questions, I agree with all your points, except that I try to handle the photos already the same evening, if possible.
In addition, I keep track of the permalink pointing to the listing and tag my photo without and also keep a list of my reviews (only 705, thereof 701 being public). That way, I can always refer back to what I posted and keep track how many times my contributions have been viewed. If I know enough to say, I also write a review, but that might also need a another day or two to reflect.
Great points @WilfriedB , and if you have the time doing it daily definitely is better as it is still fresh in the memory. Great that you have so many reviews as well!
Great tip @Stphn !! I really need to have more willpower and discipline to tackle my mountain of photos/videos!! It can all feel a bit overwhelming when I’m curating my photos/videos for Google Maps, YouTube, Instagram and Connect.
Reviews have never been my real focus on Google Maps, but I do respond if Google prompts me to writte one based on where tracking shows that I went. You have 10 times as many as I do, and I can’t imagine when I would ever reach that number.
If I plan to do a review, it would be fairly soon after the visit, but if it’s by Google’s prompting, it could be after some time has passed. I always aim to do an extended 200 character review.
There isn’t a lot of “reviewable” activity in my life, and even though I drive around looking for photo or video opportunities, I wouldn’t review those places if I didn’t actually go inside as a client or customer.
I actually get most of my points from Answers, Edits, and Roads. Also by adding Captions when I upload some of my photos.
Cheers @AdrianLunsong ! Man, I can completely believe you. You have my full respect dealing with all the things that you are doing and could not do it myself.
@tony_b I completely understand! And with me it is the total opposite, as I am very rarely doing any of the following activities: Answers, Edits, and Roads.
I will try to do some more of those too. Thanks for the inspiration!
