Tilwara Ghat which is built on the bank of Narmada river is considered one of the holiest river fronts located in Jabalpur. It’s accessible from Shastri Nagar. Tilwara Ghat is a historical and spiritual place where one can enjoy the Nature. Narmada is a revered river in Hinduism and is also known as Shankari. Tilwara Ghat is a popular place in Jabalpur, situated on Narmada’s calm and picturesque banks.

The banks of the Narmada river have been the center of meditation and penance for sages for centuries. Tilwara Ghat, the capital Mahishamati of the Kalchuri kings, was also settled on the banks of the Narmada river around Jabalpur. Tilwara Ghat is famous for the fair held on Makar Shankaranti for about 1100 years. This practice has been continuing since a queen of the Kalchuri dynasty, who was the wife of the Kalchuri king Yuvraj Dev, used to worship Lord Shiva by offering sesame seeds. On the occasion of the fair, lakhs of devotees take a dip on this bank, perform religious rituals and offer sesame seeds.

It’s a well maintained neat and clean beautiful ghat having flat stones that are paved and steps are built to access the water of Holy Narmada. Tourists can enjoy boating in colourful boats.
