Through the Lens: Vitosha Mountain, Bulgaria

This wasn’t a ski or snowboard day. It was a plan for relaxation and way to breath clean air. Vitosha is a mountain located nearby Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. Capitals are well know for the awful air. Walking in the mountain is something locals do. Decided to try that too. Felt awesome indeed!

Captured this one in the morning, right before my trip to the mountain. Tree of light or nature playing with my imagination.

It’s a cabin lift. If you have ski equipment, it will most probably take up to 3 people. There are daily cards at the price of 9.00lv per Adult. Remember - this is for the lift only! There’s a website of the facility where you can have a quick look at the updated prices too. Yup, you will need Google Translate.

Although, I didn’t go for a ride, took a few moments to appreciate the late spring snow at the slope.

Paths in this mountain are often small, especially during winter. Remember to greet the people you pass or on return.

Bulgarians are popular with their hospitality. It’s in their blood. They sometimes allow their snowmen to welcome guests of the mountain. Especially, in the winter. (this is the moment you realize, I was joking)

Climbing to the top of the mountain was not on the list that day however, it was constantly reminding of it’s presence on the way up. Cherni Vrah (Black Peak, in English, if I may translate the meaning) is the highest point in this mountain. With it’s 2290m, it’s barely the 4th on the peak list in Bulgaria but the only one known as a sleeping volcano. But don’t worry, it it’s not an active one at all! The reason it’s called ‘black’ or in archaic Bulgarian ‘cherni’ is exactly this fact.

There are many stone rivers but very few have round-shaped pebbles. Show was too much and too dangerous to get to the main location of that natural landmark but these are a good example.

There are plenty of small springs during winter, early and late spring. Yup, spring spring. But remember - never drink from this water. Your stomach is not strong enough!

I am not sure how did this one happen but I found it in the folder. Guess that I will have to share because of the view. Not me, the view!

Please, remember taking hot drink and a container for it, warm shoes, clothes, hats, scarfs and most important your health on such trips. You will feel great and sleepy when getting back from such walk. Recreation is guaranteed.
