Owing to the continuous efforts of amazing local guides like @Kumaarsantosh, @SharmaK, @Rahul001, and many others who have left no stone unturned to raise awareness about sustainability on the Local Guides platform over the years, I have become increasingly conscious about eco-friendly practices and sustainable choices.
Canvas Bag over Plastic Bag
During the ConnectLIVE 2025 event in Bengaluru, I got a sturdy canvas bag.
These bags are known to last for years, and I carry mine to every meetup and when shopping for daily groceries.
It saves countless flimsy plastics from ending up in landfills.
Each trip to the market becomes a step toward a cleaner city.
I hope my choice inspires others to shop with sustainability in mind.
Fun Fact: I converted the original tote bag into a backpack by hand using a string from my discarded pyjama ![]()
Another canvas bag that is close to my heart is the one given to me at the India Local Guides mega meetup in Delhi last year. Thanks to amazing local guides @ShreyaMusings, @Ssiddharth2000, @SonamW and @Nomad_Enkay ![]()
I always carry it to meetups in Pune and have also converted it to a backpack ![]()
Refill Bottle over Plastic Bottles
I was awarded the Guiding Star by Google Local Guides in 2022.
As part of the goodies, I received this wonderful customized refill bottle.
I refill my bottle instead of buying disposables.
This simple act keeps single‑use plastics out of our rivers.
It’s healthier, economical, and kinder to the planet.
Every sip reminds me that small habits make a big change.
During my recent trip to Detroit, I also refilled another metal bottle at the refill station of RiverWalk Cafe.
Compostable Cutlery over One‑Use Plastic
During my dinner at the Detroit Foundation Hotel last month, I noticed that they used disposable cutlery. These were made from eco-friendly material and not plastic,
I choose compostable spoons and forks when possible.
They return to the soil instead of polluting it.
This reduces the burden of plastic waste on our community.
Dining becomes a celebration of eco‑friendly living.
Ceramic Mug over Plastic Cups
I enjoy tea in a ceramic mug that I can reuse endlessly.
It keeps the flavor pure and avoids plastic toxins.
No more throwaway cups cluttering bins and streets.
I consider my mug to be a symbol of mindful, sustainable choices.
What sustainable practices do you suggest and adopt in your daily use?
