Things to do on a Rainy Day - Visiting an Art Gallery in Pune

Pune boasts of an astounding 50 museums.

Besides, there are numerous personal collections by passionate people who have formed a group called the “Collectors of Rare Items”.

Last week, they exhibited their prized collection at the BalGandharva Art Gallery.

I went there last weekend. More on the travel story using Google Maps at the end of the post.

Here is an astonishingly rare radio collection on display.

Then there was Mr. Sunil Patil with his amazing collection of mouth organ or Harmonicas.

He was also seen playing melodious tunes at the exhibition.

Here is a collection of antique cameras and stopwatches.

Chewing betel nut leaves with mint and flavors is common across India.
This is very beneficial for digestion, especially spicy food.

A collector had on display various cases that carry better nut leaves, limestone, supari, etc. He explained each of these brass items in detail.

Another collector had medical hats, warfare items, and helmets on display.

The next exhibit was watercolor paintings and walking sticks.
The most adorable was the one used by Charlie Chaplin.

This collector had on display his collection of well-preserved large insects like butterflies, scorpions, and a praying mantis.

The next exhibit was rare minerals like copper, gold, fluorite, sulfur, etc.

Some other highlights of my visit are:

  1. A nice patterned manhole cover on the premises.
  2. Balgandrava bust statue.
  3. Crows saving their feathers in the rain.
  4. Top shows at the BalGandharva hall.

:bus: How to Reach

I walked from home to the nearest bus stop on Baner Road.
Buses #114 and #256 were available till PMC.

Then I walked again from the PMC bus stop to the art gallery.

On my return journey, I took the Pune Metro to reach the BISM Meetup Venue, and @NERKARAMIT dropped back to the bus stop.

The Sambhaji Park Metro Station is adjacent to the BalGandharva Art Gallery and has a tactile path to reach there.

The visit to this exhibition was a very satisfying experience.

Thank you, dear @Maximilianozalazar

I always like to know more about various cities, their cultures, and the preferences of people without leaving home. So I read more about others and also post about my hometown, Pune.

কাকভেজা বৃষ্টিতে ইতিহাসের পাতায় হারিয়ে যাওয়া এটা সত্যিই অসাধারণ @TusharSuradkar

Thank you @curatorofmemory
And neither did I.
Google Maps discovered many for me, :plus: recently there was an article in the local newspaper about the latest museums.
When I compiled them all, the count was 50

What a fascinating and well-documented visit, @TusharSuradkar! The rare and diverse collections—from harmonicas to betel nut cases and even butterflies—make the BalGandharva Art Gallery a treasure trove, especially on a rainy day. Your photos bring each exhibit to life, and the accessibility details are truly helpful for planning a visit. Thanks for sharing not just the artifacts, but also the public transport insights. This post is a perfect blend of culture, nostalgia, and practical guidance!

Eine sehr sehenswerte und interessante private Sammlung, irgendwann gehören sicher auch alle LG Abzeichen von euch, in so eine Ausstellung. :+1::heart_eyes:

Wow! Love how you add labels to your pictures. How do you do that? Do you add them to all your reviews? Great idea.

Thank you for taking me on your rainy day visit to an art gallery.

I use Windows paint brush to add the labels and captions to photos - this way it explains the photo quickly.

No, those are not allowed in Google Maps reviews, beyond 10% margin at the borders, although I avoid them altogether.
