I don’t recall the exact day when I became a Google Local guide nor do I remember exactly how I became one.
Simply, at one moment, I became a part of a large group of people sharing their experiences and helping one another in discovering the beauty of this dust particle that we inhabit in this grand Universe.
At first I was just enjoying the sceneries that I was seeing, sharing pictures and writing one or two reviews. I was happy to share the experience I lived and thus to multiply my happiness.
Then, the end of year 2019 came and slowly, almost without noticing I realized where we were and how big this small planet of ours is. I realized how much it gives us and how little we return.
For New Year I decorated my Christmas tree with magnets and souvenirs my friends brought from their travels or those I took myself. I recorded a video. A message came by itself – The world is in our hands. Believe it.
Very soon after that I travelled to Sri Lanka. The country, the tradition and people left me amazed. I was saddened, however, by the facts about 2004 Tsunami. A museum with hundreds of photos of children without their parents or parents without children. The message came by itself – The world is in your hands. Take care of it!
Due to various circumstances, not even two months later, I found myself visiting a friend of mine in the Caribbean, on Saint Maarten, one of the smallest islands in the world. And there again I saw the variety of colors and the richness of nature. The place is heaven or Earth. Then again, in its recent history– a hurricane Irma in 2017. Many houses have not been renewed up to this day. Many people have still not been mourned. The message came by itself – The world is in our hands. We must take care of it!
Going back to the topic…
What does the Local Guide program mean to me? It means the opportunity to call all of you, all of us who love this dust particle that we inhabit, to take care of it, to think about each step, each selfish move we have made when we sat in our cars when we could have walked, when we used a plastic bag instead of the cotton one, when we released a balloon in the sky because that made us happy, without thinking how the day after it could kill a bird or a fish…
The Local Guide program means a possibility to change our today and our children’s tomorrow.
Would you care to help me?
