The Women Who Shaped My Life | A Tribute on International Women’s Day

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to a few extraordinary women who shaped my life, inspired my journey, and taught me the true meaning of strength and resilience.

My Mother – My First Inspiration

The most influential woman in my life is my mother.
She was married at around the age of 12 to my father. Both of my parents came from respectable middle-class families from rural Feni, Bangladesh. Because of her early marriage, my mother could not complete even her basic institutional education.
Her life revolved around managing the household and raising her children. We were eight siblings in total.
My father was very busy with work and family responsibilities as the eldest in his household. Although he provided for our education and basic needs, he rarely had the time to personally ensure whether we were attending school regularly or studying properly.
That responsibility was carried by my mother.
Despite not having the opportunity to pursue education herself, she was extremely strict about ours. She constantly encouraged us to study hard, be disciplined, and aim for a better future. It was her determination that allowed me to dream of building a successful career and chasing my goals.
Life tested her strength again and again.
After we lost our father, we soon lost our maternal grandmother. Shortly after that, our family faced another devastating tragedy—we lost our youngest brother, who was her most beloved son.
The pain we felt was immense, but the strength she showed during those moments was beyond words.
With patience, courage, and resilience, she continued to guide her children forward. Today, all eight of her children have become educated individuals, and that is entirely because of her sacrifices and dedication.

My Childhood Best Friend – A Symbol of Responsibility

Another inspiring woman in my life is my childhood best friend, who is now serving as a Lieutenant in the Bangladesh Navy.
At just 22 years old, when her father drifted away, she had to take full responsibility for her family. She became the pillar of support for her mother and her two younger siblings.
She made countless sacrifices to maintain stability in her family and ensure her siblings could continue their education.
Just when she hoped life would become more stable and she could start focusing on her own future and marriage, she lost her mother.
Despite all these challenges, she continues to serve the country in one of the most prestigious forces while supporting her siblings’ education, raising her child, and managing her own family.
Her dedication and resilience inspire me deeply.

The Mentors Who Helped Me Grow

Throughout my journey, I was also fortunate to have guidance from incredible women mentors.
My university teachers, my departmental seniors continuously motivated and supported me. Their encouragement helped me grow, develop confidence, and become a better version of myself.
One of the most remarkable individuals I had the privilege to interact with is my another departmental senior Bibi Russell, an internationally celebrated icon in the fashion industry.

Meeting her personally gave me the opportunity to learn from someone who proudly represents Bangladesh on the global stage.

Celebrating Women Everywhere
This International Women’s Day, I celebrate not only these women who shaped my life but also millions of women across the world whose sacrifices often remain unseen.
Behind many success stories, there is always a woman who believed, encouraged, and supported quietly.
Today, I honor them all. <3
