The Viral Drinks in Jakarta

Almost every year, there is always something new to discover in Indonesian culinary world. For the drink itself, there are various brands and types of drink that went viral in Indonesia, especially in major cities like Jakarta. Here are 3 of them.

1. Es Kopi Susu (Iced Coffee with Milk)
Previously, Indonesian people had two choices of coffee sold on the market: cheap sachet coffee sold at warung (small food stall), and high-end coffee shops like Starbucks. But in the past few years, many local startups, such as Kopi Kenangan and Kopi Janji Jiwa came up to fill the absence of an alternative middle choice between these two categories. The price of their signature es kopi susu starts at only IDR 18.000, whereas most high-end coffee shops sell their lattes for around IDR 40.000. However, es kopi susu is not your regular iced latte. It is simply a classic Indonesian style coffee made of espresso, fresh milk, and palm sugar. Fresh coffee with affordable price. That is why it has been gaining massive popularity.

2. Brown Sugar Boba Milk
Boba drink, which is originated from Taiwan, is actually not a new trend in Indonesia. But the addition of brown sugar to boba milk drink is currently popular in Jakarta. Brown sugar itself gives a touch of natural legit sweetness to your boba milk drink. Following the success of Taiwanese boba drink brands like Xing Fu Tang and Tiger Sugar that opened their outlets in Jakarta with brown sugar boba milk as their signature menu, no wonder some boba drink outlets in Jakarta are now adding brown sugar variants to their menu. Are you interested in trying?

3. Mango Juice
King Mango Thai, a Thailand drink brand specializing in mango juice went viral when they opened their first outlet in Jakarta. I still remember I had to queue for about 2 hours just to get this viral juice. Do you remember it @Velvel ? Well, it is more than a mango juice. It contains several layers filled with pieces of mango, ice cream, whipped cream, and mango juice. The mangoes used for this juice are also imported from Thailand. Can you imagine how fresh it is? The taste is perfect! I guess @Ant_Bad_Yogi loves it too

Is there any viral drink in your region? I would love to hear your stories in the comments below.

Hi, @Lusianaa

Thank you for sharing beautiful photos. My favorite is the Mango Juice. It looks really sweet and yummy!! Btw, recently I’ve been hooked on making mango yogurt :yum:

I’ve never heard of the term “viral drink” but found your post interesting @Lusianaa . Of the 3 viral drinks you mention I think I would prefer best the Mango Juice filled with layers of mango pieces, ice cream, whipped cream, and mango juice. It sounds great and would be really refreshing in the humidity of Jakarta. It also looks like something I would also queue up for but not sure that I would do it for 2 hours lol.

Hi @HiroyukiTakisawa , your comment piqued my mind. How do you make Mango yogurt? Perhaps it might make a good topic for another post!

Hi, @AdamGT That is really easy but absolutely awesome, so please try by all means. Just marinate dry mango in plain(non-sweet) yogurt overnight. Cheers

Sheeesh even I could do that @HiroyukiTakisawa , so simple :slightly_smiling_face: Thanks for your reply!

Hi @AdamGT

Haha that might be because they were suitable to most people’s preference, and not forget to mention that social media plays an important role to make those drinks become trending. Yup, the mango juice is so good and now we don’t have to queue anymore to get it :joy:

Of course I still remember the moment when you and brother queued to buy King Mango for two hours while I was strolling around the shopping mall to wait for you both @Lusianaa

And the result was so satisfying as we loved the refreshing taste with the creamy texture from this mango drink. Ah… You make me want this drink right now :joy:

Haha thanks @FalguniP Looks like everyone here loves the mango juice. I’m thinking about making something yummy with mango right now  Cheers to mango lovers! :yum:

Tapi, kebanyakan, Instagram-able-nya :slightly_smiling_face:

@Velvel Haha yeah, it was worth the long queue! :joy: It has been a long time since the last time we had this mango juice. I trust you in finding good deals and let’s buy it again! Lol

Haha…

Tapi kalau es kopi, saya paling suka americano dengan sedikit simple syrup. Enak :slightly_smiling_face:

@Lusianaa Wow! Mango juice from Thailand! I love mango juice. Do they have sticky rice for topping? I wish they do and you try it one day. I’m sure you will love it. Thank you for joining #monthlytopic. I have been sooo busy that I don’t have time to write any post. Hope next month it will be better.

Hanya namanya saja kok yang pahit kak @iorikun301  justru rasa manisnya lebih dominan karena mengandung susu segar dan gula aren. Ah mantap! Kenangan yang pahit lewat deh hahaha

Wah menarik! Mungkin lain kali bisa dibagikan rekomendasi coffee shop disana ya kak :slightly_smiling_face:

Unfortunately they don’t have it @Ant_Bad_Yogi As far as I remember, I only found sticky rice with sliced mango when I visited Thailand. Is it common to have sticky rice as the topping for mango juice as well?

Oh, I see. It’s okay, take your time. Connect is always welcome you whenever you are able to write a post :slightly_smiling_face:

@Lusianaa Sticky rice is common for topping of ice cream here, but not mango juice. I just imagine how nice it is you can have Mango Sticky Rice in the form of Mango Juice. :slightly_smiling_face:

@Lusianaa wah kopi kenangan  I’ve never tried this before, but I know milk iced coffee is currently the trend in Jakarta. Have you tried Kalima Coffee before? My friend owns this place :stuck_out_tongue:
