I’ve just read it and I enjoyed a lot the all of these handmade items on your photos. In my country we also have these type of events where local people show their crafts.
I love the photo of thedoor knob, @KatyaL , because it is perfect to represent the traditional activity of Venice: they were merchants.
Of course the target of their market was the South East of thew Mediterranean Sea, North of Africa, and Middle East.
Everyone remember “Othello” by William Shakespeare. He was called “The Moor of Venice” due to his origin, and in fact a big part of Venice is recalling the culture and the architecture of the countries of the Mediterranean sea. @OSAMA_1
People from the south of the Mediterranean area (called Moors at that time in Venice) had their business in there. You may find interesting this 360 of Campo dei Mori, in Cannaregio, with the statues of the Rioba Brothers, Merchants in Venice on the 11th century.
You are welcome @KatyaL Yes I have been to Venice many times. ofOf Onecourse as well as all the many traditional places like St Mark’s Square a favorite place of mine is the Peggy Guggenheim Museum. Have you been there? I love all your photos.
I loved reading this post! There is so much to learn about this world-famous festival! Have you ever attended it? It feels like one must see this carnival at least once in a lifetime.
I traveled this weekend to Italy, but when I planned the trip there, I didn’t take into consideration when is the Venetian Carnival. I was hesitating which is the first place I should see in Italy and naturally decided to see Rome. Have you ever been there as well?
Thank you @KatyaL for sharing with us about this upcoming event. I really like reading your posts, they are always informative and easy to read.
Once I visited the beautiful city of Venice. This city has left the best memories in my heart. So I hope I`ll have a chance to visit this fabulous Venetian Carnival someday.
@KatyaL - I have been to Venice years ago.when only Lonely Planet Travel Guides and paper maps existed. Sat in a gondola and was serenaded by the gondola.driver. Saw all the famous sites one is supposed to see. Walk on many bridges and down canal streets.
Did you there is a mini Guggenheim Museum in Venice? I bumped by chance with my wandering around, and again before Google Maps.
Going to Venice during its Carnival is on my Bucket List. I know @ErmesT & @AntonellaGr are waiting for me to buy the plane tickets.
I feel visiting Italy will be a multiple trips adventure because there is so much to see that I am looking at different times of year to get truly a glimpse of how the Italians truly live.
At my local community center and college, they both teach Italian. I am seriously thinking about it. I just need more time per day to fit everything in! Can you help me? Lol
Thanks for sharing this wonderful photo from your vacation trip in Rome. I’m sure you had a lot of fun exploring the cultural and historical heritage that it offers. I also really liked my trip to Venice a few years back and I was amazed by the architecture and the great sights there. For me Venice is not only a romantic place for a visit, but it’s also a place where you can learn about the Venitians and for the Italian history in general. I haven’t attended the carnival yet, however I’ve read a lot of books about it and about Venice in general. It’s great that they managed to keep the traditions and to celebrate it in such a great way every year!
Thanks for your comment! I’m glad I could show you the beauty of the Venetian carnival. Check the photos that the other Local Guides are sharing as well. It’s a magical festival and I think it’s worth for a visit!
