As I mentioned in my post “Healthy on the go option from a Brussels’ supermarket” knowing what to eat when you are on a trip in an expensive city, with a low budget and still wanting to grab some healthy meal can be quite tricky.
My go-to action is usually to search for the closest supermarket and get directly to the “already made” salad area in order to find a healthy and fast option for just a few bucks. But sometimes getting to the supermarket can be tricky, specially if you are loaded with luggage. That’s why I felt like finding the holy grial when I discovered the “Louis Delhaize” Supermarket at Brussels’ Airport, which turned out to be a life and budget saver!
This shop has an extensive variety of goods among which I have enjoyed delicious juices, fresh bread and diverse salads that open a world of possibilities for the vegans, vegetarians, the individuals on a diet or the ones trying to keep up with a healthy lifestyle in the midst of traveling.
It has been an excellent option for last minute shopping, specially because it has reasonable prices and not the regular skyrocket high airport fares.
This is usually my first and last stop when landing or departing from Brussels’ airport, either for a heart warming meal or for a quick snack.
On a funny note: I frequently share with my mom what I eat on go and there was one time in which I was so hungry and the croissant was sooooo good that I forgot to take the photo “on time” and this was what I sent her:
Now that I am writing this I’m starting to feel old, I mean, young people do not look forward to going to supermarkets, right?! Have you ever had such a weird relationship with a supermarket or store?
Thanks @Ant_Bad_Yogi for your comment and for letting me know that you enjoyed the post. Have you ever been in a crazy hungry situation while traveling only to find a life saver place like this?
It’s great that you are searching for such supermarket with healthy food and drinks, when you are abroad, because most of the people are eating junk food. It’s actually very hard to be healthy when you somewhere else. But as I can see, there are people like you, so congratulations!
Do you know that you can leave your review and photos of this place on Google Maps. It’ll be of great use to other Local Guides who are looking for more information about the place they’re visiting before going there.
Hi @PoliMC ! Thanks for your comment and for appreciating the complexity of situation that inspired this post. It is indeed tricky to find affordable healthy food on the go, specially in an unknown place and if you add to that dietary restrictions such as vegetarianism, then yeah… It’s twice as hard, if not more. I enjoy sharing this discoveries because it was due to someone’s advice that I got there, so is a way of paying forward, in the biggest possible tech way: Google
About posting it on Maps, this review is already there (you can check it out here: https://goo.gl/maps/NDkdoeqsMrmxMe8D7 ) I appreciate the reminder because I tend to forget it, so thanks for that too!
