The value of photography

We all heard that a picture is worth more than 1000 words, but does it really?
5 years ago I started contributing to Google Maps with that premise. At the start, my focus was mainly food-related contributions but year by year I noticed how society rapidly adopted Maps and heavily trust ratings and pictures for important decisions. Traveling destinations, dining ideas, birthday venues, date ideas or finding a local barista.

I’ve been lucky to contribute to more than 406 places in more than 13 countries helping more than 2million users choose their destinations. Honestly, this is a super exciting place to be in. It’s a small drop in the water with a rippling effect.

I am so proud and happy to be part of the Top local guides in my community as not only small local businesses benefit from it but everyone in the community can pick their favorite destinations.

As a member of the community and a coffee lover, I love being able to make decisions from the palm of my hand by typing what I’m looking for and looking at pictures.

This virtual platform is one of the greatest social inventions of our times, everyone can benefit from it and everyone can contribute to it. Having a diversity of opinions, cultures, and personalities contributing to it makes it a place for neutral opinions that have a positive local impact.

Hope this can motivate other local guides to keep up their awesome work. Keep taking those pics.

Hi there, @Andrea23 !

That is a beautiful photo of Lake Tekapo! I loved my time in New Zealand and that lake had me sitting on the shore and staring for hours. Of the photos you have shared on Maps, what are you most proud of or surprised at the views of?

Thank you @Andrea23 for sharing your story and the beautiful picture from New Zealand. Not sure if I ever will made it to this part of the world, so fantastic that you share it via GoogleMaps.

Thank you.

Hi Jordan
The ones that usually made really proud are the ones for places that haven’t gotten any or just a few ones that don’t represent the place well enough.
My personal favorites are landscapes. Too many great places to be discovered.
What are yours?

I actually love a good panoramic or 360 photo of a landscape or wide view. I take them with my Pixel phone and hey are quite immersive.
